thats what it sounds like to me but I am by no means extremely knowledgeable on this subject. Go to autozone and get the CEL code that way you know for sure

yeah i agree, it definitely has to be your coils and plugs. if you had no compression usually the car won't even start, or in some cases it will start but you can barely put the car into gear. take it to autozone, or if you have a warranty, call mazda roadside and have it towed to the dealer.
Did you get the code pulled? Basically the car is trying to tell you what it thinks is wrong and rather than find out what that is, you are asking people who have never seen the car to guess. My guess is you're out of v-tech fluid!
Yeah... you definitely dont work every day of the week so often that you can't get the code checked at an auto store. If you really dont have that kind of time, then I dont know how you'll have time to fix the issue.
Flashing CEL is a mis fire. . . your check engine light will stay on until you've address said misfire.
A miss fire under high load has already been said by many.
Address in this order:
Plugs: when is the last time they've been changed? (BHR has best plug prices)
Coils: when is the last time they have been changed?
Wires: " "
At 32k in an '04, the age of the original parts is becoming an issue.
Also, disconnecting your battery will reset the ECU and thus reset the check engine light.
Let us know how it goes!

If you pull your code and it's a misfire, you are not in big trouble at all. Get the parts, a ratchet set with a socket that can fit over the spark plugs, and a jack. Two hours later, you're all fixed up. It's really just a step up from needing an oil change on these cars. However, you could pull the code and it could be something else. Getting the code pulled however takes 10 minutes at the store and is free. I doubt your automotive issues are any worse than mine and I still have a sense of humor about it.
+1 - this is a minor issue... your car didn't explode, its not on fire, and you didn't hit anything.
However, take the time to do it right. Mix up the leading and trailing plugs and you'll have a problem. Strip out the spark plug threads on the engine, then you'll have a real problem. Don't forget the dielectric grease and anti-seize.

The wires (OEM) are considered only good for 30-50 k miles.
