mscamp02 12-01-2009 01:34 PM

compression? missfire? :dunno: thats what it sounds like to me but I am by no means extremely knowledgeable on this subject. Go to autozone and get the CEL code that way you know for sure

Leonardo Rosas 12-01-2009 01:35 PM

wast the car cold? also try to unplug your battery and plug it back in and see how it goes, my engine light came on after some guys at the bodyshop flooded my 8 ... after that my light went away

Wouldn't rev past 6k or revved past 6k but was bogging?

DaRotary 12-01-2009 01:39 PM

ya it was bogging and than it would get past 6k

DaRotary 12-01-2009 01:40 PM

its 04 32000miles 6speed

9krpmrx8 12-01-2009 01:41 PM

I had a bogging issue with my last motor and it was just coils and plugs. 32,000 miles is about right if you are on stock coils and plugs.

...get the CEL code ...
Exactly. Without that you're just whizzing in the dark.

Ken

RedRocket8 12-02-2009 08:58 AM

yeah i agree, it definitely has to be your coils and plugs. if you had no compression usually the car won't even start, or in some cases it will start but you can barely put the car into gear. take it to autozone, or if you have a warranty, call mazda roadside and have it towed to the dealer.

CyberPitz 12-02-2009 11:32 AM

Get the code from the CEL

Common points are Plugs, Wires, Plugs, Cat.

DaRotary 12-02-2009 03:32 PM

now its fine it red lines in anygear no problems but the cel light is still on??

maxxdamigz 12-02-2009 03:38 PM

Did you get the code pulled? Basically the car is trying to tell you what it thinks is wrong and rather than find out what that is, you are asking people who have never seen the car to guess. My guess is you're out of v-tech fluid!

DaRotary 12-02-2009 03:49 PM

no i have no time have to go to work.. wtf is a vtech fluid....

shazy 12-02-2009 06:42 PM

hahhahaha the guy was making a joke. ignore it, its only for hondas

DarkLord7854 12-02-2009 09:38 PM

Get an OBD2 reader if you seriously don't have time to take a 10min trip to autozone to get the code read, cheap as dirt.

8 Maniac 12-02-2009 10:29 PM

Yeah... you definitely dont work every day of the week so often that you can't get the code checked at an auto store. If you really dont have that kind of time, then I dont know how you'll have time to fix the issue.

Lighten up man, they told you what to do, what more can they do sight unseen?
And by the way, it's "then", not "than"

Vyndictive 12-03-2009 08:03 AM

Flashing CEL is a mis fire. . . your check engine light will stay on until you've address said misfire.

A miss fire under high load has already been said by many.

Address in this order:

Plugs: when is the last time they've been changed? (BHR has best plug prices)
Coils: when is the last time they have been changed?
Wires: " "

At 32k in an '04, the age of the original parts is becoming an issue.

Also, disconnecting your battery will reset the ECU and thus reset the check engine light.

Let us know how it goes!

If you pull your code and it's a misfire, you are not in big trouble at all. Get the parts, a ratchet set with a socket that can fit over the spark plugs, and a jack. Two hours later, you're all fixed up. It's really just a step up from needing an oil change on these cars. However, you could pull the code and it could be something else. Getting the code pulled however takes 10 minutes at the store and is free. I doubt your automotive issues are any worse than mine and I still have a sense of humor about it.

Vyndictive 12-03-2009 08:56 AM

+1 - this is a minor issue... your car didn't explode, its not on fire, and you didn't hit anything.

However, take the time to do it right. Mix up the leading and trailing plugs and you'll have a problem. Strip out the spark plug threads on the engine, then you'll have a real problem. Don't forget the dielectric grease and anti-seize.

BHR also has the best deal on MSD plug wires for the 8. So if you are going to do plugs, do the wires at the same time and save on shipping.

The wires (OEM) are considered only good for 30-50 k miles.

Mate, it's already been said what you need to do, we can't do anything more for you until you get the CEL read and give us more info on the plugs & coils.
