I had to dig my corsica out of my driveway in belgrade. I am used to snow.

would 17's be a good idea? cost of rims? ne1 know

Yes, 17s are recommended over 18s, cheaper and they work much better. You can't fit 16s unless you have a base auto without the sport suspension package (rare, and your 8 would probably have 16in already). Anything else and 16s can't fit over the brake calipers.

I just bought a set of 18" snows and put them on the stock rims. I didn't see the need for another set of rims. I already had a set for autox.

I didn't see the need for another set of rims.
Just a matter of whether you want to get tires mounted and balanced twice a year, or just swap the wheels. Depends on your preferences and convenience. Back in the "two snows on the back" days I'd keep snows on a separate pair of wheels and swap in the comfort of my garage. Usually during the first snowfall of the season.

Back in the "who can afford a good car and more than four tires at a time" days I just ran snow tires year round. That was generally OK with new snow tires, not recaps.
