It will effect the sales of the RX-8 as much as when the Pontiac G6 was introduced.

It doesnt even come close to an RX-8...its that simple...not to mention its ugly as hell
Small world.... my mom is in Deland. I had my 02'Maxima serviced there twice. But back on topic.....

Yeah the Altima will sell lot hot cakes, but it will have no effect on the RX-8. You'll have the sheep that will buy anything new, you have the clueless that will go buy the Altima and coming out thinking they can beat there older sibling the 350Z. Then you have guys like us , enthusiast who are keen on detail , and know what there looking for in a car.

RX-8 is an RX-8, it's for an enthusiast. For a person who likes to put excitement into his everyday driving. Altima was born a sedan. So they can come out with a one door altima with 400hp for all I care, the only one's that'll buy it are the soccor moms with too much testosterone and guys that don't do enough research before buying a car. Done.

It will not affect the sales. There will be no effect.
Affect = verb. Effect = noun. (in this context)
Ineffectual English lesson over.

No affect at all!
This comparison is not even apples to oranges.
It’s more like apples to bananas!

The design, handling, and coolness factors aren’t even close
Come on! The Altima looks like an Accord for Christ’s sake

The “only” reason to compare these two cars is the big engine in the Altima.
And the Altima “may” be faster than the 8 in an out-of-the-hole straight-line duel.
But, I think most of us purchased our 8 with other things in mind than red light racing.

IMO
A better comparison is the Altima vs. the G6

Was that goin nuts in a good or bad way? My guess is that the new coupe will be a hit for the main stream crowd.

Don't blame me, I bought one this year.

I think all you guys with '04-'05 models need to trade in your RX8s for 2007 models. That will improve sales.

You don't want the rotary to die, do you?

Though you guys may not see a parrell alot do and Altima may be an option.

Though you guys may not see a parrell alot do and Altima may be an option, going by the talk aroun the water cooler. I only added that the Rx-8 is a sports car and mentioned the front wheel drive of the Altima.

Their comment was that it makes it a better 4 season vehicle, and the popular WRX and Evo are all wheel drive so rear wheel maybe traditional sports car its not the only definition of sport car. And the Altima does have a bigger trunk and back seat, some think it has a pretty slick body design. I think the RX-8 is sportier looking but I haven't driven a New Altima coupe, the 2005 Altima 2.5 I wasn't impressed with it . The car wasn't quite enough and the interior was not what I want in a sport sedan (I'm more a Infiniti, Lexus r BMW sport sedan Man) the engine was spunky.

I'm going to try to do a side by side drive each after the other. Just for Me.

Rear: OK. All wheel: fine. Front: no way. Two rounded rubber bits that have to deliver power and direct the car are just no good. With low hp, torque steer is not quite so bad but when cornering hard the car behaves like an old paralyzed dog pulling itself about by the front legs.

The 270HP version of the Nissan Alitma may simply dig into Nissan's G35 and a few Nissan 350z customers looking to get similar design and power at a bargin. It may do damage to Honda sales though....

But it will do nothing to RX-8 sales. The RX-8 is in a class by itself.

What is need to boost RX-8 sales is plain and simple.... Come out with a 300HP RX-8. Damn sure can be done, but some executives at Mazda are hating on its own rotary line.

that's like asking how the price of gas would affect global warming. Very difficult to connect...but if you follow the dots long enough, your likely going to see a connection. It'll just be so small that you'll likely walk away more dissapointed then anticipated.

in short, i'd be shocked if it even created a wake.

It sure CAN be done...but then the rx8club forums will be bombarded with 'why does my 8 get bad gas mileage' 'why does 1.3l use more gas than v8' 'i hate the 8 trading for a civic to get better mileage' threads than ever.....

I don't remember the 8 being such a high seller that it could be affected by other cars.

Comparisons aside, Nissan will probably sell more of the coupes in the first year than the 8 has sold throughout its lifespan.
