Your trade-in is a premium price...take it.

'Cause I just bought a blue '04 6sp/GT with 16K miles from a dealer for $18,900. Your car is doubtless worth a lot more than MOST people are willing to pay for it, and if the dealer is padding the trade-in to sweeten the sale for you, then you might want to go with it. I daresay you won't get that kind of offer until maybe summer time!

....a dealership offered you 20-22K with an 04 with 30K/sports package? I don't care what you had to trade it for...that's an AMAZING trade-in price for an 04.

I'm not trying to sound too harsh, but good luck even getting 22K in a PRIVATE sale. Expect about 17K for a trade-in anywhere else.

Sorry to drag this out...

...when it's a moot point for enfini, but there are others with the same question. I just spent two weeks nailing down a metallic blue with the 6sp & GT package, and here's what I found:

1. Price range for private sellers is typically $18K to $23K, depending primarily on whether the bank still has the title or not and a loan has to be paid off.
2. Price range for dealers is typically $20K to $24K, depending a lot on whether they live in a sunny and warm state (CA or FL), or a northern/colder state (MI, IL, WI). Prices will vary a bit upwards of that.
3. There are a TON of RX-8's for sale...40+ on ebay, and over 1300 on Autotrader.com.
4. Cars with rebuilt titles are out there in the $16K to $19K range...isn't that something?
5. RX-8's with Veilsides & rims command an extra $2K...a little more perhaps.
6. Blue is a more rare color, at least to find one for sale at a reasonable price.

I called one of the dealers (who was closer than the others available), told them I was looking at RX-8's all over the country and wasn't afraid to do a bit of traveling. I've seen cars finally let go mostly in the $18K price range, and I'd be happy to give them $18,500 for their $21K car. They talked it over, said they had $20K in the car (trade in I guess), but since I was coming from out of town (and they hadn't been able to sell it locally too, I guess), they'd let me have it for $18,875. That was close enough for me, particularly since it was a low mileage example...only 16K miles.

I might have been able to buy one for less if I haggled a lot more, but hey, I was pleased to buy such a clean used one with low miles at that price; nearly half of new. Anyway, if you MUST sell your RX-8, you're going to have some competition. I hate to say it, but I think MOST people will be disappointed with what it sells for. Sorry guys!
