How much can i get for my RX8 (dealer/personal sale/carmax/etc)
Hi guys... i was wondering what i can get for the 8...
3 months ago, Mitsubishi said they would give me approximately 20-22k... which i think is a LOT, but it's too bad i no longer possess ANY desire for the evo9.
When i'm ready to sell:
2004 RX-8 M/T Sunlight Silver with Sport Package
29,500 Miles
Rims have few scuffs.
Paint and exterior: few dings on passenger side, paint is good.
Engine: BRAND NEW as of 28,900 miles.
Mazda replaced the engine, motor, and catalytic converter.
Axial flow short shifter
Borla Exhaust...
I'm pushing to get 20,000$ for it... is that a good bet?
and lastly, please don't inquire about how Mazda USA replaced my motor, engine assembly, and cat.converter. IM me at jadonis27 for this info.
All services have been done 5k, 10k, 15k, and 30k up to date, and engine oil was meticulously maintained every 2,800k miles. Please let me know on what you think a good target price is...

the thing w/ KBB is that they don't equate the potential price increase of adding in a NEW motor or stuff along those lines... that's why i'm inquiring for info here...
i also have that japanese key programmed... the one w/ the rotor in the key fob...

i looked at auto trader real quick, i think u will get between 16k-18k for dealer trade in.
probably around 19k-20k for selling privately.
just a rough estimate. of course it also depends on where you live.

$19k-$20k is what I think you'll get. I have the very same car except its an AT and it only has 11,000 miles on it. I am selling or trading it this spring and I am expecting to get around 20k for it.
If you do not live in California use the NADA guide to bluebook your car.
Kelly Bluebook is based in California. Cars bluebook for about 3k more out there.

I just ran your car on NADA under my zip code.
It's trade-in value is $19,950
It retails for $23,000
These cars are worth more in my area than most others due to the market so you need to run it under your zip code to get accurate pricing. This also doesn't take the engine replacement and mods under consideration.

Go to Ebay and sort by ending soonest. Look at the highest prices offered on the last day. Thats about the bottom what you'll get selling it outright, maybe add 10% if you sell it locally - then deduct $200 for advertising.
As far as a trade-in goes, take the value they offer and compare the selling price they're giving you. "Invoice" prices don't mean a thing. At one time the invoice on a new car meant thats what the dealer paid, generally 80% of MSRP. Then the manufacturers got creative with incentives and slowly the invoice price was raised to about 90% of MSRP. As interest rates dropped below about 9% most dealer terms became very relaxed generally from 45 days to now 180 days in many cases. Along the way came extra incentives. Some of those incentives were made public, some ar not. For example when the Dodge Magnum came out the invoice (90% of MSRP) was the common selling price despite the dealers selling them as fast as they could get them. Dodge was offering the dealers sales points that often translated into overall discounts as high as 25% BELOW invoice on other models.
Bottom line is trade-ins are a game with the dealer. If the trade-in would sell on Ebay for 10,000 and they give you $15,000 they simply have $5000 worth of discounts to offer you on the new car - they give that to you on the trade-in.

Usually when trading in your car the mods you have done to it do not add to the value of the car. In most cases, they can take away from the value of your car. Also what others have said about the engine being replaced can also take away from your value. If you want to make the most, you may need to just try and sell it private.

If the blue book value is higher than the offers you're getting for trade ins, private sales from people,, and ebay, then definitely sell your car to carmax. They always buy and sell by the blue book value. And with the plummeting value of our cars, the blue book value is likely to higher than what someone else will give you.
PS: Whatever you do, just dont buy a car from carmax.

When you sell it, place it out near a road with a for sale sign where it can sell itself. If you can get people to look at it closely (and if it is in good condition), you are more likely to find someone that has already started seeing themselves in your car before they contacted you. Plus, many people still don't know what they are, and it is a damn good looking car that could grab the eye of someone who has never heard of an RX8.
