How many RX-8 are they making?
Does anyone have any figures for how many RX-8's they plan to ship to the US? How does that compare to the number of RX-7's they shipped to the US?
As an aside, I saw the most recent-gen of RX-7 on the road yesterday, and I realized that I hadn't seen one in months. There don't seem to be too many left on the road.

Unfortunatly, I can't help you out with numbers for the US, but I know that for year one there will only be 750 units available in Canada and our official launch date is May 15th.
But if it is anything like the MazdaSpeed Protege launch the cars will be late...I was promissed my MSP last August didn't get till late November and there are people still waiting for them...

That 18,000 in the 1st year may be conservative. I remember when the Miata first hit, Mazda indicated only 20,000 per year. They quickly changed that when they realized they could have sold 100,000 that first year. I think they built @ 30,000/yr the first 2 or 3 years.
We'll likely see as many as 25,000 RX-8's the 1st year if the launch goes well and the car is well received by the media and public. Do we have any pre-order volumes yet? With the buying public looking for fast, usable cars, I think Mazda could have a serious homerun on their hands.

very, VERY few... but there were some years where the SA/FB RX-7's would sell more than 100 000 units in those early years... almost as many with the FC's too...
Mazda has had its hits, but the FD wasn't one of them, sales figures-wise... they're a pretty rare car.
