I'm the second owner of mine. A racing buddy bought it special in 2005 with plans to race it (thus the base "unicorn" model), but changed directions and sold it to me bone-stock in early 2008 with 15k on the clock. I've been driving it like I stole it ever since. I thank him for it every time I see him.

First owner, new off the lot 2005. A lot has changed in the automotive market and professional life since then, but surprisingly there still isn't a suitable replacement based on my requirements. In the meantime, keeping an old beater car for peace of mind is priceless. Cosmetically, the sun's radiation has started to eat away at the exterior finish, but it all blends into the various key marks from vandalism and door dings.

About to perform my 7th long distance relocation using the rx8 with 47k miles. My daily transportation these days is either of two motorcycles whether rain/humid/cold/wind.

The rx8 is kept with the battery disconnected, using a marine-spec disconnect screw (brass shim stock is used to make up the terminal circumference). It is powered up about every other month, to refill on bags of charcoal, paper towels, and 20lb propane tanks in a single trip. Due to the suicide doors, it fits a 110 quart rolling cooler when I need to bring 20 racks of smoked ribs to an event, plus chaffing dishes and more.

Several battery maintainers, the best I have so far is the BatteryMinder 2012 AGM that has fulltime desulfation mode, more thorough reconditioning than either of the CTEKs I have (3300, 7002). The discontinued Sears Diehard Platinum is still going strong in the rx8 after 3 years of low usage, haven't needed to test its CCA yet.

Due to the aftermarket intake and disconnecting battery every drive, there are hiccups in the rev band until warmed up fully. Been using Legend ZX-2SR premix since the engine replacement, and the remaining 3 gallons of it should last me until I am over 900 years old. Technically I am on the 3rd engine, but the last engine replacement was due to a force of nature and I don't really count it.

I am 3rd owner.

1st unknown, drove it for less than a year and 11k
2nd owner for about 9 years and 175000 miles. Original engine ate part of an apex seal at 186000.
3rd owner for almost a year pulled it in on a trailer from SoCal and hasn't left my driveway. 186000 miles total. Hope to increase that someday.

BC is 120km/h in the mountains, which is not bad. The limit drops to 100 as soon as you cross into AB... and then to 90 when you enter the parks

Original owner club

I bought mine new in spring 2007. Now has under 79k km. Never keep a car longer than 4 years in the past but there is something about this RX8 that I keep going back to. Was very close in replacing it with a m235i but the thought of going to flappy pedal depressed me. Besides the car still runs strong. Got a number of offers from friends but I've turned them down.
At this time I might as well just keep it as a 3rd car status.
There will come a day when classic FM RWD cars will be missed and mourned.... And I'll be glad to have experienced it.

I've had 2 RX-8s: a brand new AT 2005 and a used MT 2005. Originally bought an AT and got bored of not being able to shift gears so I traded in towards the MT, so my current RX8 has had 2 owners. I've had the car for 13 years now with no major problems outside of having the ignition coils replaced a few years ago.

MD RE: How many owners has your RX8 seen?

I have no idea who the first owner of my 04 silver RX8 was but I bought it from the second owner who bought the car in 2006 after she graduated from college. She is an engineer who studied the wankel engine in college. She knew all about the engine and took very good care of the car.
I bought it about 1 1/2 years ago with just over 71k on the odometer.

Original owner, bought my 2004 in Jan of 2005 with like 25 miles on it. Has 0 problems with the engine up to 105,000 miles while beating on the motor every chance I got. 0 mods to the car during all 105,000 miles. Only pulled the motor because it had a bad front main seal/front cover gasket and was leaking oil. Spent about 10k in parts over 1-2 years and now have about 4k miles on the rebuilt REW motor.
