How to identify Trim level?

So... I'm shopping for a used 8. Currently looking for an '05 Red Touring MT

I may snag one through CarMax since the local dealer just never seems to have any, and I don't really trust buying one used from any of the other local dealers.

That being said, I'll be shopping around online for one obviously, so I need help in identifying trim levels so I make sure I end up with a Touring or Grand Touring and not a Sport that got upgraded wheels.

Is this something that can be identified by the VIN, or any other visual cue?

And is '05 an ok year, or should I stretch a bit for an '06?

This is for the 07's, but something tells me it's the same for most/all years out right now in the US.

Yeah, I just don't trust a dealer to tell me over the phone whether or not it has HID headlights and DSC.

But, if those specs are correct for previous years, the identifying option is:

Moonroof

It was N/A on the base model. And since I want one with a moonroof, I'm safe. Thanks

yeah, it's very easy. touring will have a moonroof and no leather. GT will add leather.

yeah, as long as it has the moonroof, it should have the sport package and the difference between touring and grand touring would be the leatherand power+heated seats.

at least for the 07's there are only 3 trim levels.
Sport == base model == no moonroof
Touring == moonroof
GT == moonroof + power seats
