How good is the stock clutch?

Not necessarily how much power can the stock clutch handle (though that is pertinent information as well), but more to the point, how much abuse can the stock clutch handle.

I ask because the wife didn't quite figure out the push down to get into reverse thing, and instead burned the clutch in 6th about 4-5 times. It smelled pretty bad by the time I got out there. So, I just want to know how the stock clutch holds up.

LOL it should hold up good. Just dont keep doing it or thats it. I'm teaching my Girl how to drive stick in our 6 speed. Its kinda fun
BTW there is a thread floating around on page 2 or 3. Someone was asking how long the OEM clutch would hold up. A lot of people said 70+K. But thats not including abuse

Mine is holding up ok, it's at only 30k ~...I am sure other members are doing higher mileage on their stock.

70k plus on the OEM clutch?!?! mine lasted about 25k with only 1 track day, a handful of twisty road days, and daily driving. And no I dont abuse the clutch, I always rev match, etc etc. Although, I do think there was an issue with how my car would engage/disengage but mazda just wrote it off as a burned out clutch. Anyways, Ive read on here from many owners of their stock clutch not lasting long at all.......

you shouldnt have to worry about what your mrs. did though.

Just like any other Manual transmission equipped car. If you know how to drive a Manual, the Clutch should last really long.

since this is a *sports car*, no one really drives easy with it (unless u're an idiot), but it should be able to do 70-80K miles easily.

How can your wife burns it in the 6th gear in the first place ????? 1st I understand but 6th ?????????

I did 47k on oem before upgrading. The clutch looked good when it came out - I'm sure it could have gone another 50k

She thought it was in reverse while it was in 6th. It probably stalled a few times so she was slipping it like crazy trying to get the car to roll backward without stalling

Now now, she can drive just fine. She's just never had 6 gears before. Honest mistake. The part that got ME was she woke me up at 7am (I work overnights...) screaming "WHY WON'T THE CAR REVERSE". She got frustrated, and didn't stop to think or look at the stick.

Do a search. It's good up to 400 ponies.

It will last as long as any other clutch, which means it depends upon how you drive.

Some have over 75k on the orginal.

Shouldn't stock clutches in any car go at least 100K? If you know how to drive a stick then it shouldn't be an issue should it? I've never had an issue with the clutches in any of my vehicles. My last car (04 sentra se-r spec v) had 107K on its stock clutch with no signs of having an issue.

I will say though that the service advisors at my nissan dealer used to tell me all the time about the 350Z owners getting clutch work done after only 20K miles but they all seemed to believe it was a driver issue and not knowing how to drive sticks right.

I have 60+k on mine and I actually am surprised it has lasted this long. It is finally showing signs of wear but I'd say that' pretty good considering all the track days and nitrous runs. And I have a bad habit of riding the clutch in heavy traffic.
