The dealer can not order a key already programmed for the car..
The vehicle and all valid keys have to be in the same place at the same time just to add a key..
Thanks for the heads up though..
I'm glad I went ahead and bought that trunk monkey.
At least when you break in you have some breeding stock.

I've got a proposition for you:
Come over to my house and show me how to steal my RX-8 with the method you have described. There is a Mazda dealership only a mile away, so you will have an easy time getting your keys. I'll leave the VIN in an obvious place - I'll even leave the registration, title and insurance card visible inside the cabin.
If you succeed, you can keep the car.
If you fail, I get to take you out into Seneca Creek Park (the nearby woods) and empty two magazines into you in any manner I choose and leave you there. I'll only use the .22, so it wont hurt too much for long.

How ironic is this.. I just found 2 hispanic guys trying to use a slim jim to unlock my passenger side door. I yelled at them and they fled.. I slowly walked to my car where I found a scratch on the interior of the passenger side window from where they were trying to slide the slim jim in. Now I have to see how much it will cost to fix or replace my window.

Just saw an alarm shock sensor upgrade on Mazdausa site... Only $55 and a easy way to at least make it less difficult to steal the car.
My experience is that no matter what you do, the car WILL get stolen if they want to take it. Only thing to do is to make it less attractive to the blackmarket/aftermarket. Here in sweden we have a way to etch the car´s reg-number in all the windows. If someone wants to steal the car it won´t be harder, but if it´ll go to the blackmarket he has to change all the windows... makes some thiefs think twice at least. + you get a better incurance refound if it gets stolen.

Ok, I kinda zoned out in the middle of the thread, but it seems to me that there are two ways to go about driving off in the car, and by all means, let me know why either one won't work (and of course, I'm leaving out the obvious "steal the keys" or flatbed answers).
1. Totally replace the ECU with a modified version (not sure what's involved here) that does not require key authentication.
2. Attack the security technology within the key and replicate it while using a dummy key. I dont know what the key uses (passive chip that emits RF when in proximity to the sensor?, etc)
This is all way too much work for a low-moderately priced sports car with relatively low volume. Likely as not, if someone wants the car, it's for parts, so why not ****** it on a truck, gut it and do your thing? I'm just curious as to what the security weaknesses are here.

I have a 2-way pager alarm for my 8 so if anyone messes with my car they will say hello to Mr. Glock or Senior 12guage. I also have a GPS tracking system on my 8 just in case it gets lifted to a flatbed. The beautiful thing about the GPS is that if you press a button in a certain sequence and then the car leaves a one mile radius after its been marked. The car gets reported to the GPS service as stolen. I can even see on the internet where the car currently is. If anyone has 1K to invest into this I think it is worth it, it is about $400 more than lo-jack.

Come on man.. A slim jim! Not the beef jerky, a metal rod people use to unlock doors. Anyways, I looked at the window a little closer and it turned out that the tint got scratched.. not the window. How much do you guys think it would cost to re-tint my passenger side window?

1: They target a car that you see often (store, a house, etc.)
2: Break into the car, find the registration as soon as possible.
3: Walk away from the car, with JUST the registration.
4: Make a fake ID of whoever is on the registration
5: Go to nearest mazda dealership, and get a key cut.
6: They just got themselves an RX-8.
I recomend an aftermarket killswitch system. Like Ravelco or something.

3: Walk away from the car, with JUST the registration.
4: Make a fake ID of whoever is on the registration
