How does the RX-8 hold up in the heat?
Being in FL, i was wondering if any of your owners who live in the south have had any overheating issues with the RX-8 in the summer time? Its get pretty hot here in Central Fl, and being this is my first rotary, i heard rumors that the rotary doesn't do so hot in the summer time. Is this true guys?
The only overheating has been in the cabin. The AC seems to only be effective on recirculate.
In 30 months, and a variety of weather/driving conditions up to the low 100s, I have never had any issues with engine overheating.

NO problem here....ummm and just an FYI MSRECANT...when you are in the high heat the only way to get that cold air is to recirculate...because if you have it on th eother settign it is bringing in the 98 degree air, plus more engine heat , then your AC is trying to cool it down....the recirculated air keeps getting cooler as it passes though....
The 8 works just fine in the Central FL heat. The only difference you'll notice between driving in the winter and the summer is the thermostatically-controlled radiator fan stays on after you work the car out in the summer heat. Keep an close eye on your coolant level, too.
The problems you're referring to seem to be confined to very hot (above 110 deg) and very dry (Vegas, TX) climates.

I drove mine all last summer in Phoenix without any problems. Several days were above 110°! Don't be surprised if your fan runs for several minutes after you shut the engine off when the temps are high.
Mine has done fine in Southern California summer weather. It does help to thermally wrap the AC line as mentioned in a previous post. I think the underhood area doesn't evacuate the heat well in stop and go traffic despite the cooling fan. The cooling system does fine but the AC suffers a bit in mid summer stop and go.
