aside from redlining, I get into the sense of being able to take any corner I want and then realizing that the car most certainly can't do that the way my baby can. I was just visiting my dad who owns a S10 with the 4.3 vortec motor in it, I took a curve very slowly and the *** was already out, and I used to think that thing I could handle

My dad's Cadi STS redlines nice and smooth

I have more of an issue with corners.

One of my most memorable redline experience was test driving an NC MX5. This was after owning my rx-8. The first time I revved normally the car jerked and bounce unhappily. I was like WTF? Only to realise that the needle was banging against the rev-limiter at 7000rpm. Is that it? That's all? It was quite anti-climactic experience. It's not that the mx-5 was bad, it was a fun car. I guess I was so used to the free-revving nature of the rotary that spoilt me.
Even my stage II 92x felt lazy as it ascends the tachometer compared to the Renesis. It's amazing how fast the rotary rises to redline vs pistons.
In terms of driving satisfaction, it's hard to describe. One has to takethe rx-8 on a set of twisty blacktop to realise how brilliant the car is. Unfortunately that takes skills too and we all know it is much easier to go fast on a straight line than hitting one apex to another. The other car that I thought drove as wonderfully was the Boxster. Not a dragger by any measure, but the chassis is pure art.

I am a company driver for the group I work for at JFK. I have to pick up and drop off people all day in the big e350 Ford vans........ I try to take corners like my 8.. doesn't really feel the same with 10 people in the back.. . However, most know what I drive and they know the style of driving I have so they are okay with it.

Don't be so jure about that..... certainly the rotary can take more beating in the high RPM range, but everything has it's price...

I abuse every car I get in to, My Micra feels faster now compared to then I bought it.

Abusing a piston engine works if you change oil often.

The past two daily drivers I've had, a '94 Miata and a '89 325i both put up with daily redlining for well over 185,000 miles each. When I got rid of them the engines still had good compression and didn't use more than a normal amount of oil.

The MT CR-V I have just doesn't make enough power at redline for me to bother hitting it.

Same for my Fit. Even with only 109 hp, I find myself driving it with the 8 attitude. The left lane is mine and so forth. When I got in a traffic situation at 65mph last week, I just instinctively downshifted to 3rd gear - it wasn't the sound I expected. (I later went back to 65/3rd to make sure I didn't overrev.)

So yeah, I've gotten accustomed to high revs in a way that I have to be careful with other vehicles. Especially my own!

Just redlined the livin' snot outta my 1990 Mazda B2600i pickup today .... some bitchy teenager hogging the passing lane ... and then racing me as I try to pass her in the right lane. ..... Newer Honda CRV vs Mazda B2600i ... well when we hit 100 I let off because that's Fuggin way fast in an old pickup.... and she did also 'cause she probably had to return a text message.

Don't know if this is good for my truck ... but it's at 192 k miles and still runs great.

I think maybe a lot of car reviewers that don't like the Renesis have the opposite problem- they're too used to following "piston rules" and don't rev the snot out of it and really get to enjoy it.

Not just car reviewers, but many on this forum say that they shift at 4000 rpm. Like what's the point? there's nothing like the rush that you get punching this engine from 6000, up.

I use to have a 1990 Mazda b2600i 5-speed and it loved to be redlined. I traded it in 3 years back for a 2000 F150.

It was my learning vehicle and I had a bunch of fun with it. I never got into trouble, except for sliding off a muddy ride and side swiping a street sign which put a dent in the rear left side of the truck.

As for other vehicles, it really depends.

When I had to borrow my mom's 2005 Toyota Avalon while my car was getting a new engine, I ran that thing hard. But it liked it. THe engine in the new Avalon's is very finely tuned and does not show any stress when taken to redline. That new Avalon's are quick as well, with a 0-60 close to that of the Rx8, it is very fast for a large luxury sedan.

And my step-dad has a 2005 Ford Freestyle that I drove during my Senior year of highschool to save money on gas. That thing stays on the redline all the time when you accelerate because of its CVT transmission. Surprisingly is was very smooth, but it dropped off on power at redline, and I always thought that a CVT transmission with the 3.0 Ford V6 was never a good idea because of this power loss. It would be better if they would of had the CVT hold it at the 5K RPM mark instead of the 6K redline mark.

So true.....

Most piston engines produce adequate tourqe at a much lower range, vs the high range of the rotary.

Riding a piston engine on redline makes about as much sense as shifting your rotary at 3k.

You need to know your limits.

Redline is bad for piston engines.

Do some research and you will find most cars peak torque and HP is well below Redline.

Why do you think they call it Redline?

DANGER!
