My 8 costs about $50 less per 6 months than my 5 year old sentra. The 8 hardly costs anything to insure.

It's no use. This is what people on car forums do. No rational person understands why as there are dozens upon dozens of factors that influence insurance. However, that doesn't stop 95% of the people to say "my insurance is x -- you're lucky/screwed" or something to that effect.

You have no choice. Just tell everyone what your rate is and call someone a n00b. Give into peer pressure.

I'm 18 and 2 tickets paying around 1900 a year not too bad I didint think so not too much more that my 98 eclipse I had before. Don't worry about the price just write the check when the bill comes thats what I do. $498 four times a year. It's not too bad.

Living in NJ actually raises my insurance by a factor of almost 2. I could probably insure a Lambo in Idaho for what I pay for my 8 here. Actually, my insurance is decent. I pay just under 2/3rds of what my sister pays for a Mazda6 4banger. Then again, I'm over 25 with a clean driving record and she is less than 25 with a less than clean driving history. My insurance dropped a lot when I hit 25.

200$ a year more expensive than an 4 dr accord. They said they get stolen alot.

But Rems and Saturn are right - it's not apples to apples. Just call your agent and ask. Then call another and compare.

- tongue in cheek -
More immature drivers in the 350Z that get into accidents. Also RX-8 is easier to handle than a 350Z. Hahaha!
- still tongue in cheek -

through pregressive about 2 yrs ago, i was paying $140/month. I switched to a local company and its $60 a month.

Funny thing is, between my old rx8, and my new one, i had a mazda 6 S, and my insurance is actually higher with a 6 than with an rx8....go figure.

Agree.

Too many factors go into your premium, from your essential age/sex/record to other things like neighbourhood location, loyalty discounts, deductibles, perks, etc, that it doesn't make any sense to compare your rate with someone else's. The only valid comparison is your own quoted rate for the RX-8 compared to other cars in your policy, past or previous.

Mine actually went down a little when I traded my 2006 Nissan Titan on my 2005 RX-8 with almost the same mileage on both vehicles.

I think it has a lot to do with the "2-cylinder" engine. I laughed when I got my title in the mail. "Cylinders: 2". Most insurance adjusters sitting behind a desk probably assume it is some kind of little mini car or something. That, and the fact that they are somewhat of a rare car, means not a lot of accident reports, theft reports, etc. for them to justify raising rates on it.
