How crazy is RX-8 insurance?

Is it considered a 4 door? I hope it is or else i'll be paying a pretty penny. I was quoted an extra 600 dollars every 6 months to own a 350z, hope its not the cause with the 8. How safe are they?

There is a whole sub-section for this very matter. Easiest thing to do would be to get a quote for an 8 so you would know extacly how much more you were paying.

I ended up only paying 20$ more over a Kia Hatchback. Results may vary.

They are very safe. You'll find more information than anyone else will post in here if you search though.

That depends on your driving record.
Good driving record= good rate
Bad driving record =bad rate

I think the 8 is cheaper (all other things being equal) because insurance companies don't really have much data on them. And they classify it as a 4 door so they take the data on sedans and apply it to the 8.

Follow the golden rule:

If you have to ask how much it costs, you can't afford it

You have to call your insurance company. It's going to vary so wildly no one will be able to give you an accurate answer. For me, insurance for RX-8 would be almost exactly what an 350Z would be.

Mysteriously cheaper, by about $5 every 6 months, than our '03 Nissan Maxima SE. And about 60% of the cost of my '06 STI when I was driving that. So much for the red sports car costing more to insure than the gray sedan . As everyone says, your mileage may vary, but in general it's not an expensive car to insure I don't believe.

Mine went up 25 bucks more, not because i was a bad driver , because the RX-8 is fairly new. But i didn't mind the 25 dollar increase, its split into a 12 month increments.

Thats ruffly a $2.08 increase for me.

Switched from an 04 Jetta to an 04 RX-8 and the premium was the same down to the penny. Granted, MA auto insurance is messed up, but thats how it worked out for me.

I pay $200 more a year for my 2006 versus what I paid for a 2001 Cavalier Z24.

The 4dr thing helps a little... also, someone said not alot of info on it.. I believe that to be true, as more people buy and more claims are made it will probably rise a little..

My insurance company (all state) classifed it as a coupe. Is this wrong?

My insurance went up $1200 a year over my cadillac, haha. I have a completely clean record... but I am 18.

Argh I can't wait for the 25 year old price cut.

Some companies classify coupes based on interior space rather than number of doors. I believe my insurance has it as a 4-door coupe.

I hope you don't have Progressive. They couldn't care less. When I turned 25 with a clean record my insurance sure as hell didn't go down.

I dropped them since they were raping me on insurance.

41 year old with State Farm in Louisiana,
$400 every 6 months with full cover.
Listed as a 4 door coupe comparable to a Toyota Camry.

My premium went up $6/month compared to my last vehicle...a 1998 Nissan Maxima. Pretty damn good for a car 7 years newer with a sticker price $3k higher than what I paid for my Maxima. I was pleasantly stunned.

Thats good. I have state farm too, but the thing is, im 18. As long as its 500 and under its fine. But if its comparable to the Camry I dont see why it wouldnt be that price. Thanks guys.
