Hey, whatever happened to the guy...

that said his rear wheels locked up and caused an accident?? I think his name was rob3375 or something like that. A lot of responses seemed to think he had down-shifted into a lower gear than what he thought he was in which caused, what seemed to him, his rear wheels to lock up. Thought he was going to post an update as to what his dealer or Mazda had found.....

rob....you out there?????

yeah.. i remember that post... That's definately a good candidate for follow-up.

I Got a little worried when someone mentioned this was more prone to happen to the 4AT's... Let me do a search to see if I can find the thread.

I'm guessing that things did not occur as he suggested. About the time that we started calling him on the misshift/overcorrected from driving onto the shoulder he went away. I still think this was not a gearbox issue, but a driver error issue.

I still think it was a miss shift. When you down shift intentially you release the clutch slowly to smooth out the transition. When you upshift you don't need to do this and you release the clutch quickly without issue. If you think you are upshifting but downshift and release the clutch quickly, you can easily lock your rear end. The gear shifter on the 8 is pretty tight, you can change all gears with wrist action only.

There is no update at nopistons.com either.

I can't blame the guy. It will probably take some time to get any official word on what they think happened, and it would probably be hard to keep posting on these boards given his current circumstances.
