Hey, I'm a member of the new engine club!

I don't know if this is still a relevent topic but I'm getting a new engine (2004, automatic). A couple months ago, I had a major service and I complained about a loss of power at 80 degrees ambient, severe loss of power at 90 degrees, and almost total loss at 100 degrees. Mazda service faulted the MAS sensor, and I hoped the problem was solved but the weather moderated and the power problem seem resolved.

Last weekend I encountered 95 degree heat and I couldn't maintain freeway speeds. When I tried WOT, the engine chattered as if was completely dry of lubricants. Not good.

I'm a bit pissed because Mazda didn't fix the problem the first time, though they must have known I had a bad engine. I saw a copy of the dealer instructions online concerning the engine recall and it seemed to impy they will replace the engine only on the second complaint of severe power loss. When I brought the car in yesterday, the service writer casually asked me if I already had a new engine, implying they are all too well aware of the problem.

The only good news is I'll have a new spec engine and the whole ordeal will not have cost me any money. The Mazda3 rental is surpizingly zippy and tossable for a dirt cheap car, but the interior is exceedingly low rent.

I don't see why not. But seeing that the car the renesis2 will ship with isn't due for 4 years. You've got plenty of time to figure it out.

If they increased displacement by widening the rotors, perhaps, but it they change the dimension of the rotor housing, you'll probably need some sort of custom fabrication to bolt on to the drivetrain.
