Huge hole is huge
Changing from an aggresive hard accelerating, hard braking, driving style to a more relaxed style incorporating gentle acceleration and cruise control on the highway, can improve fuel efficiency by as much as 35 percent, according to an Edmunds.com study.
and the whole, "gentle acceleration and cruise control on the highway, can improve fuel efficiency by as much as 35 percent," I thought OUR cars had worse fuel efficiency with Cruise Control on? I could be incredibly wrong in thinking that, though.

I went from Savannah to Orlando with 4 tires, jack, tools in the car on one tank ~295 miles and the light didn't come on yet. We even hit some stop and go slow spots. I was leading a friend who was towing a vehicle and so I used cruise control at a slower speed than usual ~70mph (I usually cruise around 78-81 mph). Filled up and it was around 24 mpg, whereas I usually got 20-22 mpg on the highway cruising at a higher speed.

It depends at what speed you're cruising at. Cruise control works well because it can maintain a fixed speed much better than a person can. Cruise at 70mph or less and you can get around 24 mpg. Cruise at 80mph or higher and it will be around 20 mpg.

The coldest I've heard that as well, also learned about it off of Top Gear when they drove a Audi A8 TDI 800 miles on the tank, when it wasn't supposed to. Quite a good episode...can't find it anywhere anymore, sadly.

Well...
Hmm...is this true for all gas stations now? I'm not sure about that Mom+Pop's "Gas + Chips" store down the road. I mean...they dont even have card readers and the flipping numbers...I know some scary parts of VA.

personally i really dont care....just b/c you cant runaway from these gas prices and no matter how much you try to get the most gas mileage on your car, you're just spending more time worrying too much and time is not replaceable..... so go on and live your life because IN THE END WE'RE STILL RX8 OWNERS WITH SHITTY GAS MILEAGE AND NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU TRY YOU'LL STILL END UP LOSING .LOL.
and what they said about the marginal performance with higher octane is total bullshyt. It makes the Biggest difference..

gas is stored in underground tanks where the temperature is pretty damn constant and therefore gas temperature is constant year round. Therefore the whole theory is crap.
The only difference is the level in your cars tank may fluctuate which would effect how much gas you can physically put in your tank.

Its not an economy car, its a sports car for a reason. Buying one should put thinking about gas as the last thing on your mind. As someone on here said before, you gotta pay to play. Just suck it up, nothing you do is going to improve your gas mileage by a large number, unless you drive like a grandma, which in then youll be building up carbon and ruining your car So what is it gonna be, new engine vs. paying for gas.

Haha, yes, I remember that ep also. wasn't it strangely *exciting*? even though Clarkson wasn't doing anything remotely 'fun' with the car. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see if he'd make it back to his Start/Finish line !
