Question Help me understand?

I have been reading many stories about Renesis engine failures on this forum and from other places on the net about the engine failures that people are experiencing. To be honest, it's scaring the crap out of me. Some writers say that the problems lie with the first batch of RX8's to come over and others say that it lies with all model years. I own one of those first batches (build date was June '03). People say that's its the light weight oil, others say that the oil weight is fine, but it's the lack of proper oil changes and quality of gasoline, while others say that it lies with the PCM or it only happens to people who live in warm to hot climates. I just don't get it, what I do get is that this is a problem that needs to be addressed. I owned an '83 RX8 with a 12A rotary, and it was bulletproof even past the 122,000 miles that it had when I traded it. Although it got to the point in which it couldn't pass any emissions test on earth, it was still a venerable motor. But the Renesis is supposed to be a better rotary right? It's supposed to be more efficient and powerful, right? The only thing it shares with the previous rotaries is it's configuration, right? And I believe that if I'm wrong about any of these things, you guys will correct me. So what gives? Engine failures? Any engine failure in a car, whether a rotary or not is nothing to sneeze at. I change my oil faithfully and keep a quart on hand in between oil changes, cuz I now rotaries love the stuff. I take it to redline weekly to keep the carbon at bay. But I would hate to be driving my ride, and then.......BAM! the engine blows. That would **** off especially it I find out that there was some kind of design flaw or that Mazda told me to put a certain weight of oil in the car, and it would have been better with another weight. I just don't want my engine to die like some of the other owners. Knock on wood, my baby is fine so far at 42K miles.

First off.. learn what a paragraph is. Second, learn to be concise.

The RX8 is not the car for you, try the civic forums.

see, that was an example of being concise.

You've been driving your 8 for 42k miles and you're asking about this stuff now? Read the stickies and use the search function.

for us to help you understand, you have to help us understand what the hell you're trying to say with all that text.

these are simple questions that didn't need that much blabbing - especially without correct sentence and paragraph structure. use the search tool along with google if that's too hard to do.

also, if nothing's wrong with your car, and you're taking proper care of it, why does it scare you so much?

My coworker's Cadillac CTS is in the shop with fuel system problems after less then 1000 miles. So look at it this way. You could have bought a GM.

1. I had no problem reading the OP's entry, but then I don't have ADD and I'm not reading it drunk at 4:00 am.
2. "1983 RX8" is obviously a typo, and anyone taking issue with this is just making a cheap/opportunistic shot.
3. The OP is obviously someone of long-standing and appreciation of rotary Mazdas, has reasonable concerns of the latest design, and deserves more respect and patience than has been exibited here. To suggest the OP "buy a Honda" to address is questions & concerns is juvenile and inappropriate.
4. This isn't the first thread to deal with such questions, and yet it seems to be the first thread to handle it so rudely.
5. Others may have similar concerns and questions, as is the nature of such forums, but so far this thread is a disservice to those readers and their issues.

I have ADD but I understood his point. It does help being on task though but he's not the first and won't be the last.

I know, but it was still kinda funny.

If it's true the OP has a long lasting understanding of the rotary engine then I would expect him to be able to understand much of the debate as it stands. You can't be involved with rotary engines this long and not understand enough to follow the arguments and theories regarding engine failures.

Exactly, this isn't the first thread regarding this issue. There have been several threads and threads which have gone into deep and well thought technical discussion. At this point we're beating a dead horse when there's already tons of technical information about this at your fingertips.

If others have similar concerns and questions I can almost promise you that they have already been answered. The fact remains that there are quite a few RX8's which have not sufferend engine failures, transmission failures or other such problems.

There is probably at least one post a week on this forum from new members about engine failures or people asking if the engine will last a long time. A five minute search will yield a wealth of information without having to post up.

Do people have to be rude? No they don't...but if you're expecting productive discussion on this topic in this thread it's not going to happen cause it's already happened in other threads.

What kind of backwards country is USA if you have to worry about fuel quality? It's so damn cheap over there you should buy the most expensive one anyway

Well guys I appreciate your rudeness. I think that you are being too harsh. I look to this forum for answers because I think the majority of you are very knowledgeable. And yes the 83 RX8 was a typo, but you knew that. It's one thing to guide someone in the right direction, but it's way left field to insult them when they are trying to find that direction.

pete and rx8it, you guys need to toughen up this is the internetz and this is some serious business.

I mean hell you can't expect to be catered to just cause you have a 'valid' question, one that has been answered in probably 5 other threads at least. Why should anyone waste their time reposting an answer they already posted.

Ill help ya out, you have nothing to worry about. Search around there is a lot of this being discussed. Due to the design of our engines, carbon builds up quicker than previous rotaries. Most of the RX8s engine failures are from carbon lock, not *BOOM* I blew an apex seal.

There are many proven methods to prevent and maintain your engine. Just because you own an early build does not mean your car will inevitably die at 50K miles.

Search around and learn and you will be okay. Thats what I did when I first bought my car and my 03 build is on 72K miles and still dynoing 190rwhp + .

then please post all the links that answer the questions. and make sure you point out the faqs. and for the most part you have proven not to really have a clue on what you are talking about.. you might not talk about rude till you have covered the same questions over and over again. others do have the same concerns. and they should read the faqs. could you find the link to the great post by brillo that covers most of this?
