Hello, newb here
Hello everyone.
I am more than likely purchasing my RX8 this week but I figured I would check here first to clear up any confusion and questions I have.
Both of the cars I am looking at are 04's,one with 23xxx miles and one with 14xxx miles and are 6speeds. Is there any known problems with this year that I should check for before purchasing? Also is it true that these cars made 20-30 less HP than mazda claimed?
Another thing I have noticed is that I have seen varied performance reports. What is a stock RX8 capable of in the quarter and 0-60? Also, I know these cars were designed more for the twisties, that's why I am considering the car.
When I get the car, it will not remain stock for long. The mods I want to start with are full exhaust, intake,CS pulley. Are these good starting mods or can anyone suggest anything else?
Also, I know they come with factory 18's, but will I have brake clearance issues if I drop down to a 17? Thanks for the help.

Make sure all of the recall checks have been done and check compression.
The cars were introduced at 250HP, then 238 but actually have 232.
Performance varies with willingness to abuse the clutch.
Twisties are the car's strength.
Adjustable shocks and sway bars are good. Racing Beat has a performance flash for the ECU. High flow cat. Definitely the Axial Flow short shifter.
And yes, 17" wheels will fit.
Since you're a neophyte I'll offer this advice: try out the search function on the site.
Have fun. Post pictures when you choose.
