Hello from new member

Just drop by to say hello. I want to thanks everyone in this forum for all sorts of good info about the car. I bought a Velocity Red with Rotact accent /sport package/body kit with Mazdaspeed flywheel. It is manual of course. The car has been perfect since day one. The interior quality is very nice. No squeeky noise to be heard of. The car has either an M or N flash. Under the hood there is a sticker label"PSMN04 (?)". I read about people said the car has no torque. Well, the car drive just fine to me. It pull strong from 2500 and up and just kept on pulling and pulling. And it sounds sweet doing that. I had stick with the break-in procedure by Racing Beat. I only red line the car once by accident and it does has a loud beep. The only down side on this car is the gas mileage. I don't really care about that but since I broke over 3000 miles the mileage seems to improve quite a bit. I only drive the car on the weekend or after work so I don't really care about gas consumption. All in all I am very satisfy with the car. It is my first new car and it is so much fun to drive. I see many people have issue with it not fast enough. This is not a drag car. It has about 40 less horses and much less torque but it only loose to the Nissan by not much either in straight line or at the track. I think we should be proud of that. Much of it is the driver skill. Also a sport car is not define by straight line speed alone. Fun to drive and handling is a big factor too. That's why I buy this car after test drove the Nissan 350Z several times. The Mazda just feel so "right" to me. Thanks all your guy again for an excellent website. Safe driving now.

By the way, I live in Rochester, MN. If someone live near this area, please email me. I see there are 3 other Rx-8 in the area. One black, one blue, and one other red.

One quick question, how do your guys clean the dust off the clear lens infront of the dashboard? It seems to get scratch rather too easy no matter how gental my cleaning technique is. It is almost like I have to use clean air to blow dust away instad of using damp cotton to clean the dust. How difficult is it to replace that clear screen? Thanks.

You've only redlined once during the breakin period, or once AT ALL?

Yes, only once after about 3200 miles or so. I do not dare red line the car before 3000 mile!

Normally, I don't red line the car but I do make sure I get into the 7000 rpm zone before I park the car to clean out the carbon as some of you recommend. I mostly shift the car in the 3000-6000 zone. It is bad for gas but I just love to hear the sound. The car pulls hard after 6000 rpm all to way to red line. I notice that I have to add more oil if I drive it at high RPM compare to when I drove at lower RPM. So far I added about 1 1/4 quad of oil before my first oil change. Love the way the car drive. Some time it is all I can think of when I am at work!

Hey Sweet. I am in your neck of the woods in La Crosse, WI. Just picked up my red 8 in Minneapolis last weekend. Drove through all that road construction in Rochester on the way. There is no Mazda dealer in La Crosse. Is the dealer in Rochester any good? I will probably take the car there when it is needed. I have never seen an RX-8 in La Crosse before mine. Feels pretty cool to have the only one in town!! Lots of admiring looks!

Hey you, Mazda Dealer in Rochester sucks. They don't give you good price. I would go to Walser Mazda up in the city. They gave me good price there along with $4000 deduction on 2004 model. As for service, I have mazda dealer in Rochester change the oil. It is quite cheap at only $28.
You know what, I hate cops in Lacross/Winnona area. I got pulled over the 3rd week of owning the car. I was passing 3 SUVs on I90 and by the time I passed them I was doing 105 mph. I didn't know I was going that fast until I see the flashing light on the other side of the road. The officer was OK. He gave me a 95 in 70mph zone. He didn't give me citation either. Just pay the fine and free like a bird. So I behave now when I drive. Good luck with your car. What car is it anyway?

I use one a can of compressed air used for PC keyboards, etc. No wiping and/or scratching...I also use this to blow the dust off of the dash instruments.

Sweet - Cops around here are a real pain. No crime so they have nothing to do but give traffic tickets, my fuzzbuster has saved me many times. But really 105 mph! you were kinda asking for that one! I also got a good deal at Morries Mazda in the cities. I got a red one with touring package and NAV system. Still breaking in, can't wait to open her up!

Hi Jalibrandi,
Yes the speeding thing was totally my false. I didn't know the car would get up to speed quite that quickly. I have to time to really look since I just learn how to drive manual and have to concentrate on shifting the gear. All I heard was the sound of the engine which I really like and the flashing light on the other side of the highway. I stopped the car in no time and the cops really appreciate that. He said he thought that he would have to chase me down. It's also funny that the cop himself was a gear head and has a '67 Mustang at home. He said he has never seen the Rx-8 before so he asked me if he could see inside the car. So there he was sitting in the front passenger with me chatting. I popped the hood open for him and he laught and asked me where is the engine. I told him it is there but very small. We talked for couple minutes and he gave me less fine and no citation. It was my lucky day I guess. It could be worse. Talk to you later.
