Guys,

I was wondering if any of you have experienced a heavy exhaust smell w/ your RX-8? I don't see any smoke, it's just that man... if you hang around the back end for longer than a minute or two.. the smell starts to burn your eyes. The car has not been driven in roughly a week or so... so I am hoping that is what is causing it. Any ideas? It also seems to get really hot around the engine and tail pipes.. more so than I think it should. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

 

Let me guess this is your first Rotary

 

never, I mean never hand around on the rotary engin tail pipe. specialy with out a cat.
it will burn your eyes in a second.

 

All of that is normal. It's the nature of the beast!

The super rich fuel mixture required at idle doesn't fully combust in the engine and is exhausted out the tailpipe.

All quite normal for this engine.

 

Ahhhh gotcha. Thanks a lot guys. I am quite glad to hear that. Might I add that yes.. I am the proud new owner of an RX-8 as of 05/02/06. Might I say.. this car rocks guys. I am new to the standard transmission.. and I am quite glad I got it over an auto.
