Hey everyone,

I'm curious to know if anyone knows why when I turn my heater on it's only blowing out cold air. Considering it's 30 degrees out here on average this is a bad thing. I would appreciate if anyone can help me with any form of information. Thank you...

Try searching. I recall seeing some posts about one of the ***** breaking.

 

Do a search for heater control unit or no heat or heat blows cold.

The **** ceases to function after a period of time. It requires the replacement of the heater control unit.

 

Sounds like a visit to the dealer is in order. If your car isn't overheating (therefore suggesting a clogged heater hose or cooling system), and you don't have coolant spilling into the passenger footwell, I'd look to the heater control unit as having failed.

How far is the car out of warranty?

 

i have 5 simple words.... Thermostat.

 

Its an 04 with 63k miles on it...so 13k miles out of orig warranty....the **** is functioning and there is coolant in the engine. I do have an appointment with the dealer on wednesday so we will see what they say. Most likely your correct about the unit itself not functioning. Any idea what the cost might be around? Im scared to ask.

Nice!!! Thank you everyone for your input...I read the other post and it seems to be the white plastic piece under the driver side....I believe it's called the actuator. It wasnt moving properly when I turned the temp ****.

Now that I got hot air to work...anyone have an idea what controls the actuator? Will I need an entire new control unit? Or perhaps just a new actuator?

Again, thank you all for your help, at least I can drive back to school with warm air lol.

 

The Heater Control Unit controls that actuator, but having seen that the actuator is not moving along with the turning of the ****, you have now positively identified your problem.

If you are at all handy with tools this is doable by yourself as long as you read the DIY post on the procedure, which describes the "hidden bolt". Basically there is a 10mm bolt which requires a long adapter to get to, but outside of that the procedure to replace it is very straight forward.

Also, shop around for a new unit. Prices vary widely from remaned units to new units, and different dealers quoted me wildly different prices on the part.

Anyone know what DIY he is referring to here...i can't seem to find it

 

its about $230 brand new so id shop around or contact the guy who posted a few replies above me.. i have an 04 this happened and luckily i know a friend who works at a dealership who got me a brand new part for alot less than what my dealer wanted

 

Its the radio removal DIY. Basically once the radio is out, you can look at the back of the radio unit, and you will see where the dials/HVAC control unit is screwed it. Just a few screws and it all come out. Then you replace it with the new one.
