Heat Wave & AC

Has anyone notice that the RX8 AC takes quite sometime to cool the car.

lol.....I was thinking the same thing. I live in New Orleans and given how freakin' hot it is, I'm suprised at how well the A/C does work.

I think your AC capability is largely dependent on your natural heat tolerance...

A/C compressor runs off of engine rpm's, very few A/C's are going to cool well while idling, it is just a fact, you have to get the rpm's up and cruise to get cold A/C. My car is does not cool well until I get going and have the revs up then I actually have to turn it down in this heat wave we are having.

Yeah, I definitely need to maintain moderate to high RPMs to get adequately cold AC. During this past heat wave the AC has been utterly useless during city driving.

true, plus when your sitting still there is little airflow over the heat condensor at the front of the car, sure the fans are/should be going, but they are just pulling air thru both the AC and Radiator, so its not gonna be as much volume as say moving at 45mph.

There's also a "fix" wherein you wrap part of the A/C line in heat-reflecting material to keep the engine from warming up the liquid. If you want to see a car that cools off (and heats up) quickly, try a Miata. Mine was great all year round. Doesn't take long to alter the temperature when you only have 10 cubic feet of air to blow around. lol

i must have gotten one of the lucky 8s...my a/c works great. only time its even been a slight issue was when it was 96F outside and i was stuck in not moving traffic for almost an hour. i've found if the car is moving at all, it does a great job...so good after a few minutes i actually have to turn the a/c down, and possibly make it a notch or two warmer.

to be honest, i really havn't experienced any problems with the ac in my car. here in vegas, summertime temperature's well exceed 100 degrees on a daily basis and even if i leave my rx8 outside in the sun, whenever i get in the ac blasts coldly within three minutes.
