Headlight Question

I got my rx8 2 months ago, used 2006.
Just wondering, under what condition are these inside lights supposed to turn on?

I've tried every single combination possible (normal, night lights, high beam, fog lamps, parking break, etc.) and they never turn on for me.

So I've come to the conclusion that they are either broken or that they're just there for show and you have to manually put LEDs or whatever you want in there.

I might get LEDs anyways so I just wanna know when they're supposed to turn on.

Thanks guys!

those are the parking lights they should go on at the first click on the light control switch, and they should also be on when the main headlights are on.

try taking them out and see if you have any bulbs in there

Yeah, there are small bulbs held in there by a plastic "socket" that engages into the headlight assembly. They are DIFFICULT to get to and get out. I'd like to meet the man who engineered that ****.

there is no good guide for removal unless you take the front bumper off. It is really hell to get in and out of those sockets. I would suggest you have either a replacement bulb, or a replacement led before you do this project.

v-leds make a 5k led bulb which is close to what the hid bulbs are. Just have something ready because if you goto the trouble of pulling the sockets you only want to do it once. When you reach inside you will feel two flaps, you can use two fingers to turn these. I took my fuse box cover off one side, and the ecm and battery covers off the other side to help. But I have big hands and literally couldnt fit them to pull the socket without doing this.

Would advise not taking the front bumper off unless you REALLY need to. Because while it may look pretty easy, putting it back on and getting the right fitment is always sucky. You do wanna to go to vleds.com right now if you want new lights because they are having a HUGE sale to commemorate their recent populatiry (10-20% off all items plus an additional 15% if you enter the coupon code VLED).

Also, Aipex8 did a great page on what LED's work for our cars

I would recommend checking it out and going nowish to get the great deal on lights!

I just got stop/brake lights and new side amber lights so you can see through my carbon fiber overlay which I put on the housings.

While the parking lights can be a pain in the butt the first couple of times you try to change them, the most frustrating part is that you can't see what you are doing and are relying on touch only. Once you've done it a couple of times and you get the feel of it (literally) it only takes a few seconds. So I recomend at least trying it without removing the bumper and lights first.

I take the fuse box cover off on the driver's side and do it all by hand. Driver's side is easier. For the passenger side, if you need more room you can take off the ECU cover, but I don't. I can just reach the socket with my fingers. I do use a needle nose plyers to pull it up after I've loosened it with my fingers and to get lined up for reinsertion.

if your just checking for bulbs, i would try the drivers side first as i have had to replace those about 5 times and the passenger side is considerably more difficult to get back in then the drivers side is (just take off fuse cover and its not too bad)
