Has this ever happened to you?

When I cranked up my 8 this morning something happened that has never happened before. The needle went all the way up to 10k and then back down and then sat at 0, then jumped to the actual rpm. It has happened like the last 4 times I've cranked up. I don't know what to think of it or to worry about it. Has this happened to any of ya'll before?

No, manuals have 10k on the display. Auto's don't. Mine is a manual.

I know but my engine didn't rev all the way to 10k, just the needle jumped that high. I mean it didn't affect anything. Maybe it's just a display problem or something.

Mine did that a week ago.... It was 20 degrees and hadn't been started in 2 weeks. It cranked very slow but started and has been started a few times since and only did it the one time. Just went outside (35 degrees and hasn't been started in 3 days) and started just fine. Possibly a low bat problem? Just an idea...

itd be cool if your car is a STI or M35/45, it actually looks real neat if its supposed to do that.

i think a lot of cars does that when the ECU is reset. there might be some kind of connectivity problem? definetly take it in.

I'd take it in. From what I've heard/read/know, that's not normal.

If you think it's not normal for a vehicle to do something, then it's probably not. Take it in. Atleast you'll have it documented if there is ever any future problems.

what happen to me a couple of times was in really cold weather (2degrees) i started the car and the rmps went to 3k and when i let go of the clutch they dropped to 0 and the car shut off on me. i think i remember askin here about it, but we been lucky in NY for the last few weeks another reason i havent takin it in is cause my cervice center is full of ******** and i already had problems with them.
