Has anyone ever commented on your 8 being a "chick car"?

The 8 definitely appeals to 'chicks'. I have not had one of my female friends not approve of it. Most describe the car with superlatives.
The reason may be that it is a pretty car. Artful lines and graceful curves....etc.... I think that women in general may have a better sense of aesthetics, no?
As opposed to people who only know horsepower figures, 1/4 mile times, 0-60 numbers regardless of how ugly a car looks.
Hey I'm enjoying my 8, if it happens appeal to 'chicks' all the better.

Honestly I think of "chick" cars as underpowered yet good looking vehicles with an auto trans. IMO, good examples of this are the Celicas from the 90s, VW cabrios, 4 cylinder Jettas, V6 Stangs, etc. Whether or not you like the styling of those types of cars is subjective. But all are actually very competent vehicles, they just lack the punch that makes a more so called masculine car.
While the 8 may be underpowered for some tastes, it is IMO a great all around performer that does not deserve the "chick" car label. The car is great looking though, and I get complements from both sexes on it. The most common description I get is not "thats cute", I get more of the "cool car" or "thats awesome"
Two more notes, my wife drives our 8 more than 80% of the time and I can tell you its not because I am Pwhipped, its because it makes sense in our situation. Also I don't think the Rx7 and Rx8 just attracts geeks, but I do think the people who really get excited about the rotary (thus getting involved in boards and meets) tend to be thinkers who may be a little more technical or nontraditional in their thinking and lives. After all we have an engine that probably makes up far less than 1% of all the motors ever built. And most of us seem to be willing to make sacrifices to own this interesting piece of automotive lore.

LOL... when I saw this I thought you guys meant it was good for picking up "chicks"... a couple of guys told me that..... I jokingly offered to loan them the car for their dates....
I'm a female. chick? ... nah... that's not a term I would use.... I don't think the car is cute... I think it is hot and in black looks a bit sinister.... I bought it cause I liked the way it looks, thought it drove well and figured the guys I know would appreciate the rest.... I just made sure it wasn't too slow, too low powered, etc... cause that's the stuff guys look at.... I think I did well and found a good compromise, of course most guys thought I should get the STI... but that's too boy-ish for me..... :D
Also for those that think their wives/girlfriends won't check the oil etc... that's partially what the guages are for... well maybe not the oil, but tire pressure for sure.... and really if you maintain your car and get it serviced regularly the only things you really should need to add are oil and air.
I plead the 5th on my very first car.... yes the engine did run dry, I didn't change the oil for YEARS !!! it made it to 11 years old and 170K before I had it towed away..... I've had parking attendents call to tell me my tire pressure looks low..... maybe this isn't the BEST car for me....
:D

My wife is not a gearhead although she does help assist me when I'm wrenching any of our cars. And while she loves autocrossing (and does reasonably well for a beginner) she doesn't bother keeping up on scheduled service, checking oil/air or anything else. That's what I'm for--I do the research on new mods and make sure the car is in good running condition. Sort of a combination pit crew/team mechanic. We make a good Jack Sprat combination that way.
And yes, I think (my wife's) RX-8 is a chick car every time I look at it. But it's the kind of chick car that guys would appreciate a "chick" driving.

I resent that! I have a Pikachu collection! The 8's kinda weird like that, though, and I'm not really a "chick" except for being female...

I would say it's not a chick car because of the rotary. Chicks
To me chick car=
VW Beetle, Mazda Miata, Ford Mustang (V6 or convertible), Ford Probe, Ford Thunderbird (new ones), Chrysler Sebring, Mitsubishi Eclipse (especially Spyders), Toyota Celica, Toyota MR2, Honda S2000, Porshe Boxster, Lotus Elise.
Basically chicks seem to go for looks, and convertibles. They want some sort of power, or at least a sense of power. The top priority is looks. Practicality is out the window. Anything that has a small trunk, looks 'cute', and maybe it has power or maybe it just looks like it has power. Further proof of this is ricers. Ricers usually score hot chicks. Why? Because their cars are fast? NO. It's because they put on a bunch of V-TEC stickers, some ground effects, a body kit, and a non-functional hood scoop (maybe roof scoop too). Then to top it all off they add some huge spoiler which is never going to help because they've lost performance in so many ways they'll never get to 100mph so the spoiler actually provides downforce. But it looks fast, so chicks go for it. I recently found out that the hottest chick I know has a ricer boyfriend. She fits the stereotypical 'chick' in every way except she's really intelligent, and she drives a stick. Other than that, she's all for the powder puff girls and her boyfriend's riced Focus ZX3. (Maybe if it were an SVT it wouldn't be so bad.)

yeah Lotus Elise is anything BUT a 'chick car'
it's like the purest sportscar in the US market.
honestly, i don't see being called a 'chick car' such a bad thing, it's usually a compliment on the looks of the car, now if you put some good power with some good suspension tuning, you simply have a VERY GOOD (good looking too) car

I parked the car just outside my apartment door the other day. Just as I came out I overheard my female neighbor's VERY ATTRACTIVE friend say "Oh, is that the new RX-8? That car is so f--king hot." She didn't see me walking up behind her but she knew I overheard because she was kind of smiling shyly as she watched me drive away.
Yes, it's a chick car -- A CHICK MAGNET!

Well, I'm a chick - or at least female - and the only other 8s I've seen on the road were also driven by women and my husband says he's only seen women driving them so I would tend to say it is indeed a chick car. But then again most of you geeks on here are apparently male so maybe I'm wrong. I used to be a geek engineer too but fortunately I got over that.

I wonder if my avatar got out? (Top post in this forum page

Nearly every guy in my car club (Subaru-focused) has commented that they love the looks of my car. Lots of men have come up to me and asked me how I like my car, and offer comments & feedback about the rotary engine vehicle they had back in the 70's, or they may still have in their garage. I've not ever heard it called a chick car by anyone in the motorsports enthusiast groups I've hung with. If anything, it's been a 'hot guy' magnet for me!
I'm a single mom, own my RX-8, did all the research before buying, bargained with the dealership to get a great price. I check my fluids, air pressures, have my own tools, and talk things over with mechanics before & after I have work done. I'm in I.T., and while not a geek per-se, I do understand and can run with the geek world.
Generalizations are for the average, but seeking out the unique is what adds flavor to our world.
