not that theres anything wrong with it (ladies). But i just don't see where its coming from.
a few of my friends call it a chick car. I don't see it at all. Maybe its because I'm biased.

I might be contradicting myself, but I definately dont think that the 8 is a chic car. I mean I am a chic and I have this car and its manual but Im really into cars and I needed a car that would satisfy my desire, and this was the only one that worked where I wouldnt need to make any major mods. I hope this doesnt **** anyone off cause Im not your everyday, normal girl.

I am afraid it has some of the makings of a chick car. Girls like it because its "cute", and its not too powerful However, the general lack of automatics and the bad gas mileage might save us! There is at least one other thread that claims this is a geek car, and boy is that one compelling!

The RX8 takes waaaaayyyy too much maintenance to be a chick car. "Chicks" (cute girls who like "cute" cars and are afraid to get their hands slightly dirty with fear of breaking a nail, etc...) would never be in charge of a car that requires checking the oil every other fill-up. Most "chicks" can't handle adding windshield wiper fluid and that doesn't require any metering. The only "chicks" you'll see driving this car (as primary driver) are those who have a daddy with too much time on his hands or an extremely whipped husband. Even then, chicks aren't going to have the patience to let the car warm up before driving. This car is almost as high maintenance as a motorcycle.
Car enthousiasts aren't typical "chicks" and are pretty rare.

Well, you started by saying most chicks. Than you continued to say that the only chicks that drive the 8 are ones with rich daddy's or whipped husbands, so which one is it! Cause damn if I had a rich daddy than I sure as hell would not be chattin on this forum and for sure if I had a whipped husband, he would be the one typin this for me.
Im just a 21 year old female, that enjoys cars and learning as much as I can about them. Im not the girl u see prancing around a car show in some booty shorts. Im the girl thats waxing her car and shining the wheels.

But seriously, every teenager and 20 something girl that has commented on my 8 has GUSHED with praise. I just throw them the keys and say "go for a ride". Not one has taken it out for a spin. I don't know why. I would smoke the tires if anybody ever gave me a chance at a car like this

If you read my post a little more carefully you'll see that I defined "chicks" and that I excluded car enthousiast (female enthousiast) types.
I think that the theme of this thread is dealing with the masculine/feminine qualities of the car and the way in which the car owners/drivers fulfill said qualities. My definition of chick is close to that of "American Princess", prissy, types. Types who wouldn't know a dipstick from lipstick... "Chicks". These chicks have no appreaciation for cars, only for what is "cute." These same chicks would get an equal charge out of a Turbo VW Bug or 6 cyl Mustang as far as performance is concerned, because performance is not really their interest. Cute and the perception of speed is all that matters to these people. Power to weight ratios, 6 speed gearboxes, carbon fibre driveshafts, 9000 RPM redlines etc... do not interest or concern the people who's ownership would characterize a car as a chick's car.
I think that if you pay attention to the fact that I defined "chicks" in this way in my original post and use quotation marks to maintain this distinction. I also, quite clearly, noted that car enthousist females are a rare breed, and should not be generalized into the catagory of "chick." Perhaps, Gord96BRG, I relied too heavily on your powers of inference. And you are quite correct, I don't have a girlfriend... I am married. I would not have my wife driving an RX-8 as her primary vehicle and as the primary driver. She does not check oil, tire pressure, windshield wiper fluid, etc... Lifting the hood intimidates her and she does not have the patience for a car that has to be warmed up before driving and rev'ed to 3k RPMs prior to shut down. She would not keep in touch with Mazda to learn about new Flash downloads etc, and I wouldn't want to spend that kind of effort making sure her car is in good condition and would not feel good about her not becomming stranded due to a negligent flooding. But boy, does she think the RX 8 is cute.

I have to say that I was thrilled when I fianlly took my wife to see a Black MT at a local dealship. I of course had made more than one trip there before by myself, but when she went with me she said it was one of the best looking cars shes ever seen. So, when it comes time to buy one, atleast I know I have one less hurdle to jump.

I'm with you Floyd. I'm teach my wife to drive the MT, as she will drive the car often enough. But with me being the primary, I can handle all of the extra attention this car requires.
