lightweight 18" wheels, cat delete and another intake like the AEM or the stock one. Add fresh coils and your set up to go. Then a good tune!

180whp is exactly where this car is.

but you dont seem to know much so i'll give you another tip.

the renesis engine has about 215hp at the flywheel. which is why we see 180whp, it does NOT have 238hp at the flywheel. the problem is that mazda can report up to 6% change in horsepower with SAE, allowing for manufacturing differences. this is why they changed the horsepower to 232. 232*6%=14. 232-14=218. which is still high, but it is more plausible.

mods to add power
catless 3" exhaust system
cobb access port
header
intake

mods to free up existing horsepower
lightweight rims
lightweight flywheel
lightweight everything else

Well I bet you would've gotten much closer to 190whp if the temps werent at 90F! if it was more towards 60, I guess you would've gotten like 186-192whp. At temps that high, the Ram air intake is sucking all the hot air and feeding it to the engine... which is pretty damn pointless.

Dyno nothin but a #. Unless this is just a baseline to get a before and after for FI, i wouldnt worry bout it either way. I would be more interested in healthy compression #'s rather than a high dyno #. And who gives a rats *** about 10 hp either way just becuase of ambient temps or calibration? Its still only 10hp that really doesnt mean **** in the grand scheme of things.

Your #'s are about right. I went to a dyno meet last spring and half the people went home crying The only ones happy were the FI guys or the AT's. Most who had mods posted similar #'s. With my mods I only made 192.

The only thing you have different than me is the flywheel, supercat, and accessport tune.... if i got those pieces, on a good day, with the new coils and wires, i would think i could get more than 192.....

Welcome to the harsh reality.

Mine duno'ed 200whp @ rototest with a hell lot of more mods.

But its addictive and i'll hope I have improved it a bit more now.

Soon, I'm going to go to a dyno to make a baseline run... then I will mod the crap out of it.
But my car is running really good, but is making a ticking noise. I think it's cause of the loose spark plug wires.

Its why I never modded mine, $1,000's for 15-20hp just wasn't worth it to me. Plus there isn't much aftermarket for the 8 when compared to it's competitors. At least you only have about 15% drivetrain loss compared to my 25%.

I'd say get an exhaust for better sound, CAI, acessport with a pro-tune, lighter flywheel and wheels if you really want to do it.

Just depends on what you want out of the car. If you want fast you bought the wrong car.

Ill rather live with my heavy wheels..... Got an Intake and Exhaust already... Would really like to do the flywheel but im pretty sure installation is going to be crazy expensive.... really want the new coils and wires (i think it might get me a better ride quality, mpg, hp, and maybe correct my rough idle when the car warms up.... might really be worth it)

I think you're on the right track. I bet coil packs, wires, and especially the midpipe will make a big difference.

I was at 181whp with mazsport coils, wires, new plugs, and K&N drop-in.

Oh, and yes I bet you would have done a little better without the big heavy 19-inchers. My tq # was around 130 when I did the 181whp pull.

And folks on here are skeptical of the K&N typhoon, the ver 1 did a lot of erode consumer confidence on here. You could go back to stock and just do a K&N drop-in and remove your baffles. That or a racing beat intake + duct.

And you'll want a Cobb AP at some point.

Good luck and good job so far!
