Oh that rocks!!! There's something to be said for a little public humiliation in exchange for committing a crime, kind of like the oddball case of a judge sentencing a thief to walk around town wearing a sign saying what they did, etc. Some Florida counties still use chain gangs as "Sheriff's Work Parties" where the prisoners clean up the sides of the roads and highways. Just one catch though - they're wearing black and white striped uniforms with "Prisoner" or some other descriptive of the county on the backs of them.

Sometimes justice does prevail (at least a little).

I now have an RX-8, but about 6 weeks ago it was a brand new IS300. . . .

Driving in downtown San Francisco, in my fist new car ever, 4 days old, a woman ran a red light and plowed into my IS300. My wife, mother, and 2 year old son were in the car.

After hitting me, she then proceeded into the street light on the corner. The scariest part of the accident is that where her car found its final resting place, there were a number of pedestrians standing, waiting for the light to change. They jumped out of the way just in time. . . .

Still waiting for all the insurance stuff to settle. No one in my car was injured (sore, but that's all). In her car, it was only the driver, and while she was conscious and not visibly bleeding, she did go to the hospital in an ambulance.

It seems like a dream that I owned that car. It is a great car, and I very much enjoyed the short amount of time we spent together. However, I simply could not resist the temptation of getting a different car, and the 8 was my first choice - I simply didn't think my wife would be able to drive it.

We should all keep our fingers crossed that your car is totalled out. After some negotiation, they did totaly out my IS300

You know, just a couple days ago I was out for dinner with my fiance, and came to a turn to the left. I waited, got my green light (completly stops the oncoming traffic) and started to move out. There where 2 cars already stopped at the light on the farthest left and right lanes. Then this car in the middle lane completly ignores the red light she has, AND my car in the middle of the road and keeps on going. Fortunatly, my wonderfull woman noticed her and I was able to stop JUST in time. She didnt even FLINCH. I called the cops and gave them her tag while we recovered from the freak out.

I hate some people. Hope you get your stuff worked out.

Well, not likely. DUI penalties, if you aren't aware, are not as harsh as you may think.
DUI is a criminal offense in Australia.

We hate drunk driver with passion. THere is an ad saying from Traffic accident commission "If you drink and drive, you are a BLOODY IDIOT"

repeated offender have a max sentence of 6 month. SO if PEOPLE from the down under and do that, you will be sorry for yourself and expect a ozzie cop being "very rude" to you.

that's my $0.02

These days they're day-glow orange.

In Thailand, if you drink and drive, you will have one of your ********* ripped out by a rusty spoon... then when that is over, then the real pain comes...

Yep - and they can pull you over whenever they like just to give you a blood alcohol breath test. No probable cause or anything else required - you can just randomly be pulled over and asked to "blow in the bag", and get hauled off to jail if you're over the limit which is 0.05%

Certainly makes the "I'm OK so they won't pull me over" theory pretty useless all of a sudden.

*edit* - another Aussie drink-driving slogan "Are you under 05 or under arrest?"

Simon.

Thank you for all your support. I got an estamate from his insurance on saterday and the total so far is 6900 with looking at the under carage of the car which I know took some damage and the egine bay still need to be open up for a full inspection. I will deffenityly try to get a brand new 8 out of this. As for the car during the accident, it help up pretty good. I'm guessing the guy was going atleast 50-60 mph when he hit me.

Excuse my spelling, The car held up pretty good and the 6900 was just the estamate for the exterior damage.
