Goodbye. It's been fun.

Today was a sad day in my life. I traded in my Rx8 for a Mazda 3. I walked around it several times before I could hand over the keys, remembering all the good times we had. I had an early build silver 04 gt m/t and never had any major problems. I did have the usual few and the recalls but never really minded. That car would put a smile on my face every time I opened my garage. I never had a flooding issue even though I did test the limits of what is considered warmed up. I got 18 mpg on premium but my mustang gets 10 mpg so I considered my RX8 my economical car. I did have some service department woes but I finally found a great service department at North Park Mazda. This is definately not a car for the masses but if you love cars you will be unable to deny that this is a wonderful car. I come out of this deal in my wifes 07 tahoe and I bought the 3 for her due to her commute. For the price the 3 is a good car. We ended up with a red 2.3 s sport a/t. So farewell for now. I will see you all again when Mazdaspeed decides to make an 8. I got alot of useful info from this forum and I think it made me a better owner. thanks

Sorry to see you go.

Atleast you could have gotten a MS 6 though!

A 3 is good I suppose for economical purposes...

Even though you're getting rid of the 8, it doesn't mean you have to be a stranger

Goodluck with the 3, atleast now you won't have to redline the car and worry much about carbon build up

The 8 was my first Mazda and I think dollar for dollar they have great cars. I was also impressed with their customer service. I called Mazda NA twice and got results both times.

Razz1 Someone will be happy with your car.
I left a care package for the new owner in the glove box to include:
Zoom Zoom sticker
Touch up paint
04 rx8 brochure
Original window sticker
Slightly worn Mazda tee shirt

I myself am fighting the evil demon within me that must trade cars every 2 - 3 years. I'm cruising the lots, checking trade numbers and so forth. I don't really want to do it, but i want a convertible so bad.

I'm leaning hard towards a Mustang Gt Convertible or a 350Z Roadster............

But I get in Rex and I whizz through the gears with that flawless precision he has, and I think I may not be ready. I'd really regret it if I traded right now!!

Oddly enough, a new house, engagement and 2 speeding tickets have mounted up to me possibly getting an MS3. She gave me the whole "it's so much more practical and you've already got another fast car in the garage (97 Cobra)" speech. We'll see who's willing to deal around Cincy.

I'll keep you guys posted on the status. This has been an insane decision.

OK........and when you want children? Will you lose the mustang too? Insane is RIGHT! At least you can put car seats in the 8! I've done it many times, and with the way the back seats are made...the 8 is actually safer, because it will hold a car seat tighter.

You want to keep your 8? There's your argument!

I had no thoughts of trading in the 8 back when I had my son. I fit a rear facing seat in the back and now have a larger front facing seat both with no fit problems. The only reason I now traded it in was because my wife managed to compile 36000 miles on our new tahoe in the first year and I needed to get her out of it before its worthless. I couldnt trade the tahoe because I need it for towing so the 8 had to go. Trust me, the thought of putting a tow hitch on the 8 did cross my mind just so I could keep her. Imagine a rx8 with a tow hitch and a big ball sac hanging off the back like redneck trucks. It was actually easier putting my son in the car seat in my 8 than the tahoe which I have to climb up into the back seat to put him in (middle seat safer). I've always been a car guy and dont know how long I will be able to drive the tahoe. Its nice but its no sports car. If the ms 8 never happens then I think the Camero may be my next purchase.

ok, well this decision was made a heck of a lot easier for me. I was getting into the final stage of the new car process when they told me how much they were gonna offer me for the 8...

Um, the KBB, Edmunds and NADA value of trade-in had an average of 19,800. They dropped the bomb on me and said 15K. That was the end of my new car shopping for the year. I mean, that's REDICULOUS. I was already plannin on rollin over almost 3K in negative equity for the MS3, but $8K?! My freakin gosh....it would have been almost a $38K by the time tax and title was added.

That alone was reason for my fiancee to accept the 8 now. One of the other reasons I was lookin at the MS3 was for the FWD which would likely be better in the winter. Well...let me think now. A set of Blizzaks for $800, or $8K in negatibe rollover equity.

Pretty sure that once I throw on the winter tires, it'll handle as good as any car on the road!

So, after all is said and done...i'm not going anywhere. and with a certain satisfaction I might add!

Here in MA I've driven my 8 through 2 winters now. It does just fine. I run Dunlop HS2 Graspics. I like them better than the Blizzaks because they do better on dry pavement, which really is what you're on most of the winter, and they do just fine in the snow. Never gotten stuck, and the only time I had a problem is when I tried to drive up the large hill I live on when it was essentially unplowed.

From an 8 to a Tahoe. Ouch...good luck and try to keep your chin up when you try and sail that boat around the corners.

Glad you had a good experience and in a few years when the Tahoe is dead you can get the new 2010 RX8 with Direct Injection!!
