Is this a good deal?

I have been wanting a White RX8 for quite some time now. I came across this offer and I need to know if it's worth it (I really think it is). Its a 2006 Shinka rx8. Is a Shinka package rare and also what does it cost to upgrade it to Shinka? This has 32 miles and they are asking $25,980. I'd research this if I had the time but I'm stuck at work and kind of need a fast answer. Thanks for any and all replies.

i wouldn't pay more for an 06 Shinka. In my whereabouts, remaining 06 Shinkas are listed as the same price as the GT.

I think I've seen posts of people getting a new 8 for a little over that price

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...81#post1918781
Take a look at some of the posts here.

(And I thought the 06 Shinka only came in copper red)

Well because I dont know too much about the Shinka package and what it contains/costs. If you actually read my post you'd see that I asked about it. The salesman told me it was the "top of the line" package...I'm just trying to confirm that.

And thanks for the a**hole response, theres always one isnt there?

Shinka is basically a specialized trim and accessory package - a special color (metallic purple), special interior trip (leather and alacantara rather than leather and vinyl) and a few other bits. They try to pass it off as a "special/elusive/exclusive" deal, but other than that stuff, not much to it, and you won't realize the extra investment come resale time.

BTW, is Mazda's website down or something?

Thanks for the responses (well most of them). I called my Local Mazda dealership and SOMEONE there told me they had "2 or 3" on the lot and I decided to skip out of work early to take it for a test drive. The one I found the deal on is a 4hr drive so I'm trying to do my homework locally.

So I drive down there and of course "We havent had an rx8 in over a month". So super pissed, I stop at the Subaru dealership on the way home because I'm also interested in the STI L.E. They didnt have one but they tried to convince me to buy a standard STI, but I just DETEST the spoiler. I then revealed to them that the last car I bought (03 WRX) was the worst sales experience I ever had at their dealership. They said they could "right the wrong" and give me a deal on an STI. Turns out they are affiliated with the Mazda dealership I went to and after hearing how I drove out there for nothing, they guaranteed me the best price on an STI.

So I might actually go with an STI now. I told them to figure out their best deal and call me in 3 days when I can clear my mind and do some pricing research.

I still really want the RX-8 though. I know the STI is pretty much superior in all areas except one, and thats style. So now I'm stuck in Style vs Performance.

So now I ask, has anyone drive an rx8 AND an STI and how would you compare the two?

Is this a good deal

I paid $29,000 for my black 07 M/T Grand touring with the black & red leather interior, spare tire, and Sirius. BTW, if you still really want the 8, forget the STI and go with your original choice. You won't be sorry.

06 Shinka's special color is Copper Red. Alcantara instead of vinyl does better job holding you in the seat, looks slightly more "luxury", and fairly easy to clean. Black piano trim on steering wheel, side sill.. etc. Auto-dim rear-view mirror with garage opener. Dark-chrome wheels. Piano black B-piller with word "shinka" on it (big freaking deal). Bose head unit with free 1-year Sirius radio. The only upgrade you can consider as "performance upgrade" is the suspension. Which will make the ride slight more stiffer but not too bad.

Keep in mind that almost all the 06 models (and earlier) have 5-years extended powertrain warranty. And if you can get a Shinka for above price (compared to original stickers 34k+) by all mean buy it. Those extra really makes interior look so much better.

im not sure about the 06 but the 05 shinka(mine) has utherene filled crossmember

according to Mazda's *paper*, it suppose to lower the body roll by up to 20%.

I've never driven an regular Rx8 so I cant tell for sure.

oh btw the price seems a bit high for a 06. I mean the 08 is around the corner ....

OK after careful consideration, I think I am going to go with the RX8. I just cant live with the STI spoiler and I need a change of scenery (I'd be going from a WRX to an STI).

Plus you cant beat the $avings on the 06 RX8's.

Anyone know when the 08's are coming out and if there are any changes planned for it?

you won't be dissapointed with the 8.........a true sports car in every sense of the word. A far superior interior as well, IMO (I hate the interior of the WRX/STI/EVO).

There's a thread on this forum that discusses the '08 RX-8 launch date. Here's a link to it:

Well, I'm not getting the White Shinka. They had it listed as a 6-speed Manual transmission. I noticed the pictures showed an automatic. I called and a heavily accented salesman told me the picture was "wrong" and it was a stick, then immediately went for the kill and asked for a deposit on the phone. I hung up and called back later and spoke with someone else who confirmed it was indeed an automatic.

Cant find another white manual transmission anywhere. But I did find a black Grand Touring for $25,500 (sticker of 33,600). Not crazy about black, but a sweet deal nonetheless.

Well I bought an RX-8 yesterday. Drove from Michigan to New York. They gave me $10k for my trade in (03 WRX w/61k miles) which was probably 1k-2k more than I even expected.

I got a 2006 black Grand Touring fully loaded for 25000, sticker was 33600. Had 400 miles on it.

GRAND TOURING PKG M/T $4,510
IN-DASH 6-DISC CD CHANGER $500
DOOR EDGE GUARDS $75
REAR WING SPOILER $360
ALARM SHOCK SENSOR UPGRADE $60
APPEARANCE PACKAGE $1,100

Didnt notice until I got home there were no floor mats, but whatever.

And to answer the last posters question, it was Towne Mazda in Orchard Park, NY. They have an 06 Silver RX-8 there, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to get rid of it.

Pics. You can pick up the floor mats from one of the Forum Vendor Mazda dealers cheaper than local.
