Take what you know and THROW IT OUT THE WINDOW!!!

NADA AND KBB ARE JUST A GUIDE!!!!!!!!!! They do not buy or sell cars on the retail market. The true value of a car is what it will go through auction at. It goes by location.(if you said nada i would expect you to be in the south or east coast.) And most cars are ranked BACK or OVER book.

Example - Right now in the southern california region, a toyota corolla or honda civic is $500 over book. But a Ford explorer is $5000 back of book. So if the ford books for $22,000, we will offer you Between $15-17K Depending on what kind of reconditioning we think we will have to do to it to get it up to standards. Most of our used cars are also sold under blue book, therefore we need to acquire them WAY under blue book.

So to answer your question- NO, the dealer was not smoking crack. And NADA is right, but they are JUST A GUIDE!!!!! We will not go into details on the salesmens UA or OA to make more $$$. But as a rule of thumb . . .
The dealership will always first offer $1500-2000 less than what they will ultimately pay for your car.

This is absolutely true. If you can't sell your car at blue book value, sell it at carmax. They buy high and sell high. They judge the condition of your car (usually quite favorably), and then use that judgement to decide which blue book price to use. Then they offer to buy it from you for the blue book value. It's a great way to sell your car.

Would I buy my car from carmax? HELL NO. You can get much better deals. As I said, they buy high and sell high.

You should get 22k for it. That's what it's worth. There always a buyer for every car.

And dealers don't give ya sh*t for any car.

You said yo gotta another kid. Assuming it's a new born, you won't have any problem.

It's really not that much more room in the back seat on a forrester. All vehicles are a pain to get the kids in and out of the back.

The Buick luxury cars like Buick and Caddy help.

Actually I find it easier to get a kid in and out of the back of my RX cuz of the suicide doors. It gets rid of that b-pillar post.

Usually in most cases, automatics are easier to sell and priced a bit higher than manuals. Unless your at some enthuaist used car lot, then a manual RX-8 might be priced higher than an auto. Most places usually price the manuals lower than the automatic versions.

Plus you have to consider that the U.S. population as a whole doesnt' really favor manual transmissions in the first place, therefore making manuals less "desirable". = which is why a manual may take a hit when it comes to trade in, cause people dont know how to drive one. its not like anyone can hop in a manual RX-8 and drive it off the lot with no prior manual tramsission knowledge and experience. But if it was an automatic, basically anyone can drive it cause well its automatic.

Thats my take. Besides my neighbors think i will take a hit on my rx-8 when i go to sell it soley because its a manual, 10 years from now, who knows if manual tramsissions exist or not with Direct shift gearboxes coming into play and almost replacing some manual gearboxes. The fact is, manuals are becoming a rarer breed than previously thought before which is why if i were to sell this car in 10 years, some people might be confused and dumbfounded as to what a manual is, how to drive it

Anyways, thats why i said it will take a hit. The manual car might sit there longer than an automatic on a used car lot. Something that the appraiser and used car manager has to consider when taking in a trade in.

I've bought used sports cars before and my experience has been that the manual version always goes for more money. People buying used sports cars are, in general, "enthusiasts" and they want the performance and engagement with the driving experience. In some cases the manual versions can fetch quite a bit more because originally many of them were sold as automatics (e.g. Porsche 928 particularly the later years). People wanting an automatic sports car are, in general, buying it for appearance and you don't get that appearance factor with an older used sports car.

Edit: Fix quote tags.

I'd say that's a pretty good trade-in value considering 2007s are out. I agree with all the posters here who said that resale value is awful on the 8 and Mazdas in general.

I think it is pretty silly for someone to buy a new 8, just wait for someone who wants to sell their new low miles 8. The minute the car gets driven off the lot, the value sinks like the Titanic.

It is a used buyers market.

I was told by numerous other people that if you buy an 8 brand new, you'd better be planning on keeping it for the long haul, or not getting it at all. Otherwise, you'll likely loose out significantly.

Prolly seems like one of those "hindsight's always 20/20" moments, but it's what i'd heard of not just the 8, but most new cars.

Ah, but they are a thing of beauty.

Well, outside at least. Interiors can be a matter of taste.

THE DEALERS ARE BLOODHOUNDS....If you dont mind waiting post it yourself....try craigslist or try another dealer....the point of trading in a car is so that the dealer can make money on the trade as well as what your buying...they can play with any numbers either the number they can go low on the car or the number they can give you for your trade...if a dealer sees that you want more money for your trade they will give you more but you wont get a lower price on the car its a big confusion circle....personally i would never buy new in the first place because you lose $4k upon driving that **** off the lot.....anyway take it from me sell that car yourself.....use the forum here or craigslist....NEVER BUY NEW A CAR IS NOT AN INVESTMENT....ITS A TOY

Agreed. Look up the value on Edmunds.com to see what your car is really selling for used and then sell it privately. You'll get much more for it and it gives you a cleaner deal at the dealership.

When I was searching for used 8s, the ATs just languished and languished from what I could tell.
