Going to give up my RX-8 :(

Going to give up my RX-8 :(
I am going back to school full-time and will probably be selling my car. This car is fun and I really do not want to get rid of it but I think it was a mistake to even get this car in the first place. The only reason for that is because I was too young to get this car (18). Oh well, time to go back to school and drive a beater.

That's a good idea man. I don't know where you're going to school, but if it's like a normal university, you have noooo idea how many door dings youre going to get down on campus. Drive a POS beater, get your sheep skin, then get a nice car when you go to work for a company that has decent sized parking spaces.

Yes, don't feel too bad. Maybe it seems awful right now, but the truth is, for the biggest chunk of your life you'll probably be able to own cars you really like. Something to look forward to. (And every time you find a new ding in your college beater you can feel good that it's not your 8. Plus enjoy parking wherever the hell you like and not having to obsess about what'll happen to your car.)

I gave up my 8 MT and am now driving a 99 altima with 120k miles. I'm in college too and I think you made the right decision. Worrying about the 8 was diverting my attention away from more important things and also I just felt like I didn't deserve such a nice car at this point in my life.

I have my 8 at my college. Sometimes I worry about what could happen to it, so I generally park next to my girlfriends and friends cars. The spaces are also diagonal, so that's definately a lot better. Sorry to hear you're debating giving it up. You can get another one, though!

I've got almost 4k miles on my Rx8 and I'm close to selling it... and losing lots of money in the process. I need to learn a trade or something. I've been looking alot at going to auto school... just afraid I'll pay big $$ and then get out sourced by cheap labor...

^ There's no cheap replacement for competent mechanics. Especially honest, competent ones. Time (ie experience) and hard work generally do pay well in the long run.
dear gawd, when did I start to sound like a f8ckin advice column . . .

You may be making the right decision. It sounds rational and well thought-out, and I wish you the best.
None the less, be aware that on sale of your 8, you will be demoted to Lieutenant Amazing.
