Checkout the chart in this thread.
https://www.rx8club.com/australia-new-zealand-forum-37/rx-8-series-ii-owners-manual-engine-oil-161616/#post2749156 It looks like I should be running either straight 40 weight or something that ends in 50. I don't see the point in 10-30. I just bought the car so it most likely has 5-20 since the dealership I bought it at changed the oil. At least four of the quarts are 5-20. It is a '05 MT. I will probably put 20-50 in it around March or early April. |
That chart shows that 5w20 covers the whole range for which straight 40 is suitable. So if 40 is OK, then so is 5w20.
I had been feeling good that my dealer put in 5w30 for the past couple of oil changes, instead of 5w20, but I see that those two grades are interchangeable. Ken |
Hmmmm... so If I assume weather where I am at won't be below 0 Fahrenheit, I can go ahead and use 20w-50? I am running 10w-40 at the moment, but I might make that switch, being turboed and all.

10w-40 is what my turbo manufacturer stated for my location, so I won't go below that weight. He recommended 20w-50 for those is the very hot areas. I guess ill just stick with what I have and not worry about the heavier weight. I'm not going to be changing seasonally, as I am using Royal Purple which is fully synthetic, so the changes will be less frequent than seasonal.

Never mention what oil you have in your car and if they ask...lie. How are they gonna know unless the latency is just ridiculous?

+30,000 miles on re-build using 5w20 conventional oil in South Florida heat. Run the engine hard and only problem I have is slow to start and low RPM delay. I do not think the oil I have used has anything to do with these problems. Putting car into shop to re-place plugs, coils etc. K&N drop in, only mod. Car flies once out of low RPM's. Change oil at or below 3000 miles.
