Getting My 8 Soon! - NOT!

Getting My 8 Soon! I'm totally stoked! I should hopefully be getting my 8 within a week. It's behind schedule atm tho it seems. I really wanted an 8 since it's launch, but have always had jitters about buying the first year of a brand new anything, let alone a 30k+ investment. So, I waited for the '05.

I placed my order in September, and the dealer told me they had some on order already, that they could still modify to my wishes, because they hadn't gone onto the assembly line yet. I was told it should be in around the 3rd week of November, and each time I called the dealer back for info, the date seemed to get pushed further and further back. Well, it's finally in the US now, where it will take a train ride from Washington State to somewhere in Michigan, before it gets trucked to Chicago!

However, now since it's arriving so late, my first stop will have to be Tire Rack to pick up some winter tires. I will be checking posts for everybodys preference for winter tires. Was looking at probably the Continental's since I've always seemed to have bad luck with Firestones in the past. If anyone would like to reply to this thread with what they've liked, I would appreciate it too.

Also, I'm pretty sure that I will have the winter tires mounted on the factory rims, and put the factory tires put on the custom rims. I kinda like the rims that Tire Rack shows on their banner ad on this site. What do you all think? And is switching the factory tires/rims around a bad idea for any reason? Not sure what implications there are for the tire sensors, etc.

Was a bit disappointed when I read on a post somewhere that it is recommended to keep the rpm's below 5k for the first 1000 miles. That will be damn hard. How critical is this? And what would be the consequences of ignoring this advice? I work at an Auto assembly plant, and see brand new cars driven off the line, and to the truck/train transportation area which is about 1/2 mile down the road, and the drivers rev em up pretty good. :p

Anyway....I hope to be posting on the Satisfaction Poll post soon! Will be great to finally join the RX-8 family!

'05 Titanium Grand Touring Package, navigation, etc. Decided to pretty much throw in the kitchen sink. I read quite a few debates about the spare tire, but decided the peace of mind of having it would be priceless.

Well, I guess I'm a liar. Or more like the dealer. I was *supposed* to be getting my 8 this week. My wife called to ask a financing question and they told her it had been delayed until the 4th week of December. When I called to say, wtf, they now say it's scheduled for the FIFTH week of December.

The car has been in the country for about 2 weeks already. Now it will be in the country for over a month before it gets delivered? And thats barring anymore delays. What was originally unbridled enthusiasm is quickly turning into confusion, frustration, and buyers remorse.

The dealer so far has no solid reasons at all to give me to explain the delays. I told him to find a reason for me, or lose a sale. This all seems like a bad omen to me. If I'm having this much trouble getting the car, how much trouble will I have once it's delivered?

Very upset, and slightly pissed off atm.

Congratulations ... sort of. Sorry you're having so much trouble taking delivery. Titanium Gray is a great choice though. Did you get the A/T or manual? Personally I like the manual, but thought the paddle shift was cool.

As for snow tires, I'm going with Bridgeston Blizzak LM-22s. They should be here Monday. This is my first winter with the RX-8, but I used the LM-22s on my Miata the last 2 winters and they were outstanding. Left many front-drivers stranded on the side of the road. I never got stuck. Dry weather performance wasn't bad either. A little sloppier than summer tires (natch), but I found them to be quieter than the Yokohama's I was running.

Good luck with your new '8 ... if it ever shows up
