Getting compliments
#26
On the way back from a recent meet, I stopped at a gas station on the way back home. Some guy starts staring hard at me and my car......
Guy: what is that, the new camaro?
Me: HAHAHA no, its an Rx-8
Guy: a what???
Me: Mazda Rx-8...you know a rotary engine..?
Guy: uh.........yeah.......oh a Mazda.....How fast does it go?
Me: I don't know
Guy: Well how far does the speedometer go?
Me: it's digital
Guy: oh......that sure is a sharp car

I've had my 8 for 35,000 miles. Lotsa compliments.
Three favorites:
1) When I first got the car, one of my brothers friends said it was the first car he'd seen in person that he would actually f*ck.
2) Recently (like two weeks ago), as I was walking back to my car, an older guy, 70ish, was peering in my passenger window. I kinda gave him a look like, what are you doing? and he just started babbling about how the 8 wasn't just "a" sportscar but how its "the" sportscar. He said he had never seen a car that so perfectly represented his personal idea of what a sportscar should look like. Cool guy. He drove off in a minivan.
3) On a roadtrip recently, my brother got scared while I took a corner in the 8, and said, "dude, you drive too fast." I said, "I didn't break any laws." He said, "Yeah you did, the laws of gravity."
Man, I realize I have a lot more than three favorites.... .....but thats enough for now.
I love this car.

LOL, when I get asked how fast my 8 will go I just say "I don't know, the speedometer only goes up to 10." It's extra funny if they're standing by the car and look to see.
When I was asked that about my old '80 RX-7 I'd say "I've gotten it all the way up to zero" (speedometer went to 85, but the needle would go all the way around).

A friend of mine called my car "pure sex"
The coolest compliments are from the old timers though. And you get to talking about how they used to have an old rotary powered pickup truck or something. Most younger people my age barely understand how a piston engine works, so the elegance and genius of the rotary is completely lost on them.

Story time.
The last time was about 2 weeks ago, I was waiting in my car at a parking lot while the wife got her nails done. So this guy and his son are walking on the sidewalk and the guy stops and looks at my car, and he points and tells his son, "Wow. Look at that car, that is one awesome looking car. Do you know what that is?" Then he proceed to my driver side window, which happens to be down, and asks me what kind of car it is. I tell him it's an RX-8, and he walks around my car and asks if my hood is real CF, I say yeah, and then he asks how many ponies are under the hood - yes he said "ponies". I said there are 200 ponies, and then he paused and got this disappointed look on his face. He asked if I had done any performance mods (i.e. other than all looks), and I said soon it'll have almost double the 200 ponies, and he stopped and looked as his son and pointed to my car again and says, man that's gonna be one fast racecar.
His son never smiled or said anything. I guess he wasn't impressed, he must know that anything less than 400 ponies isn't even worth a smile... or he didnt give a ****.

I had a cop wave to me while im in traffic. I guess that's a compliment. Ha
Everytime im with my friend driving back to his house, I get antsy and rev to 7.5k and he starts to scream "BOOOSSSSTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!" and immitates a the sound of a BOV. Haha
I switched schools for my senior year and my friend tells me all the ricers miss my car. I even challenged one of them to a race jokingly and he disrespected me by saying "Hell naw, you have a V6." (He drives a dual exhaust non Vtec civic that sounds like a can of bees and farts)

The cool guy in the neighborhood who doesn't talk to anyone actually caught my eye one day, looked at my 8, and said, "Yo. Nice ride." I think I saw a little drool on his lower lip. lol

When I was walking out to my car, which I parked far away from other cars, I noticed a
kid running through the parking lot towards me.
I took my time getting in, and when he got there, he was completely out of breath, but he asked, "Hey is that a Viper?"
He said he saw the car from across the parking lot and wanted to come see it up close.
The was my first of many experiences w/ the car.
Last month a bunch of us went to Vegas to meet up w/ the RX8 guys from there.
We were driving around looking for somewhere to eat, and I was leading the pack.
People crossing the crosswalk would slow down to stare and point at my car.
The other guys pointed out all the attention my car was getting.
My neighbor regularly brings friends over to show them my car.
When he see's that I'm home, he comes and knocks and ask me if I can open the garage
for his friends to see it.
If I'm working on the car, I'll usually take him or his friends for a ride somewhere afterwards.

I was returning a battery for my truck at a local NAPA store. Left the same time as the clerk and he stopped me when he saw I was about to get into my car and asked what kind of car it was. Continued to talk to me about it until the other clerk came out and yelled that he needed to go get their lunch and quit talking.
Nice when Joe Q public notices our car. Even better when a guy who works with cars all the time notices.
Traffic cops almost always notice my car - more for the exhaust note then the looks I think. Probably a different noise than almost everything they hear while on the job. That's not always a good thing.

Ain't you supposed to use a tooth pick with touch-up paint?
I tried to fix a millimeter rock chip on the hood, and ended up smearing something 100 times larger all over the hood now. It just got worse and worse the more I tried to re-fix... I think if I just used a toothpick to apply, there would be no problems.
Right now myt rx8 all messed up and smashed, but who cares it's not like we're living in 2003. Just another r8x nobody care on the west/east coast anymore.

The nicest compliment I ever got, and I've gotten a few, for my 2004 WB RX-8 is when a boy of about 10 years old saw the car and began to pirouette and twirl around until he was standing directly behind, then bent from the waist and planted a kiss on the OEM rear spoiler before pirouetting on his merry way.

yeah, i've had lots of compliments about my winning blue rx8.
the kids are funny when they wave at you from their parents cars driving along the outside motorway lane. its funny when all you can see are a pair of eyes staring over the top of the door where the window and door join as the car goes past. i even had a bmw m3 slow down to have a look as the dad passed with his kids in the front and back and they must have been talking about the rx8 as they were staring and pointing. then he sprinted away as he must have wanted to get his kids respect back for his bimmer lol.
i also get compliments from mothers at the petrol station and i had an elderly gentleman stop me going into Tesco's shopping center one day to ask me all about the car and yes you do find that the older generation know all about rotary engines etc.
i think its the combination of the styling colour and alloy wheels which grabs their eye. but i like people liking the rx8's design it is something else and they love the rear doors!

wow i love the feed back from rx8club, and i wish like on youtube i could give 5 stars or click the thumbs up :P
i've given compliments :P
first encounter with an rx8 was while in 1, my friends, and after putting on the seat belt, and zoning out on the space craft worthy interior, saying "why don't i have one?"

Got another one today after sevenstock, I parked it in front of my friends apartment and watched this guy walk by my car (and kept looking at like it was a hot chick) until he got to the back and turned completely around to see read the badges to see what kind of car it was. I was watching through their front window.
Happens all the time, but I never get used to it, it's like having an exotic car.

For some reason everytime im driving some dummy wants to challenge me. Recently some volvo got next to me driving and just hit it (ricer fly-by). A civic tried the same thing with me im just cruising coming up to some A W E some corners, that I like taking at 60mph. As im getting ready for it the civic just takes off and takes the first corner looking like he's about to start riding on 3 wheels. The next one he almost hit somebodies lexus while trying to take the corner. I swear, some people love to do dumb $#*% when im cruising.
