Gearing
What kind of gearing did previous wankel cars have?
RX-7's, Cosmos?
I was thinking Mazda would have the gear ratios nice and close. Something like 5,8,11,14,17,20 mph per 1000 revs.
But I think that a nice and short first gear 4 mph / 1K revs would make city driving way easier.
4,7,10,13,15,20 (yeah I know that is a pretty big jump from 5 to sixth gear, but during sport driving you wouldn't really be using first and sixth gear)
Thanks

1000 rpm for 20 mph would translate to 3000 rpm at 60 mph. This would be too much revs at that speed, and would mean less mileage. Remember, this car has 6 speeds, not 5. There's much more versatility than was previously available.

The Honda S2000 top gear is about 19 mph, the Civic Si (old) was about 18, and I think the Integra type R was about 17.
The Lexus IS300 is about 24, the curren BMW M3 is about 25, the old (USA) was about 23
The Mini Cooper S is 22 if I remember correctly.
Revs doesn't necessarily equate to poor mileage, because the throttle is really closed (75 degrees). Do Wankels use EGR?

that question (about the EGR) will get more reads and a much better chance of being answered if you post a thread in the "Discussion" section...

3K rpm at 60mph should be fine.. Unless the Renesis will eat gas like a V8.. On my Prelude I usually drive 120-140km/hr at about 4K rpm and that combined with city driving nets me 10L/100km.
This is a high revving engine right?

3000 RPM at motorway cruising speed is fine... but 60MPH is barely moving...
I hope they have different ratios over here... most people here would expect to be able to cruise between 80-90 and not get stopped... I'd like to see more like 23 in top.
