Gas Question

I have been getting nearly 250 miles per tank of gas with my RX-8. The last two fillups though I have only gotten 200 miles. I'm driving the same route and everything elseis the same except the weather has gotten colder. Also, I still have the K flash. Has anyone else seen this this with their 8? Would upgrading the flash help the mileage in general?

Thanks.

If you are located in the US you should have taken your car in for the gas tank recall. At that time your PCM would have been updated to the latest available software/firmware. By all means, take the car in for the recall and get the update. Will it help your gas mileage? Maybe. But there are "fixes"--like modifying the starting A/F mixture, for example--in the updates beyond "K" that make it a good idea to get the latest update anyway.

For those who complain about the gas, I'll put it in perspective. My brother has an '04 Ford Escape that has on its sticket 20mpg city and 25 highway. Guess what? It never gets better then 15 city, 18 highway. The RX8's tank is 15.9 gallonas and the escape is 16.5 gallons. So just know that lots of people have cars that advertise better mileage then they actually get.

Funny, my wife's tribute (escape clone) routinely does 19-20 in the city, while my RX-8 does 12. But then I have a 2 mile commute and she has a 10 mile commute. I blame it on three things, 1. short drive, 2. the 'oxygenated' gas in Houston which is supposed to knock a couple mpg off, 3. along with the constant A/C in the summer knocking a few more off.

Either way her Tribute always does better mile for mile compared to my RX-8. Of course I do not really care, since I have a two mile commute.

It really all depends on those factors plus how you drive the car. My brother drives his Escapse pretty hard, since they are pretty fun to drive for its class of car. Right now I drive an Audi S4 (soon an 8) and I can get anywhere from 15-18 city, 19-22 highway. When I drive conservatively, 18, hard, 15. So unless people buy those cars that get horrible mileage to begin with, RX8's are made to rev. Cars that you rev usually get worse mileage. Even my dad's mini doesn't get hybrid performance because he drives the snot out of it.
