How many gallons of gas does our car have and how much is it to fill it up from empty to full?

A gas station charged me 75 dollars and i need to go back and tell them thats its impossible because our car doesnt even take that much gas

 

Is this a serious post?

 

15.9 gallons...right now gas is $2.59/gallon...and from 1/4 tank it costs me about $30...so i'm guessing $36-$40 from empty.

 

They could say you poured it into a container.

How is it possible to get overcharged on gas?

 

Happened to me once, when a pump runs out of gas it will keep pumping (and charging for) air.

I was pumping when it started spinning really fast, and the total was already $60+, so I just made it unbelievable - ran it up to $400 , went to the cash desk and told them there was nothing coming out, (so what i DID get was free, but that's not my problem!)

That's an amazing story- by the way- that is one dirty tank of gas you probably got.

 

Does anyone else' light go on when the car only has ~2 gallons left? Just curious what what point your light goes on...

Yeah, I would say it costs roughly 40-50 bucks to fill up on empty...

 

Mine seems to come on with like 3.5-4 gallons left, because i'll fill up with 11.5 gallons or 12 gallons.

 

i don't know that i've let her get that dry.

 

The light goes on after 13 gallons.

 

Yeah, the "free" gas was probably full of rust/water and god-knows-what else, but it's too late to worry when it's in!

Calculating the size is much easier outside the US - we buy by the liter, the tank holds 60 and the light comes on at exactly 50 (on mine).

I don't even need to calculate mileage, I just have a little table that shows how many mpg I'm getting when the light comes on, i.e. if it comes on 350km after a fill, I'm getting about 18 to the US gallon, 400km would give me around 20 mpg/us (and it HAS happened occasionally!)

Thats why you pump your own gas....let me guess...your from jersey right?

 

From empty, when the needle is barely above the E, I pay about $33. And that's using premium gas as said.. I can't remember my gallons though..

 

All I know is that when that light comes on, get gas as soon as possible. I passed the last gas station until I got almost to my house. A few miles later the light came on. I thought, "I should make it". I ran out of gas about 3 miles from the gas station. I called my wife to bring me gas. She said, "why didn't you turn back and get gas when you realized?" It was about two gal. I went about 35 miles from the time the light came on and the time I ran out of gas. Oh well, first time for everything.
