Funny stories with your RX-8

Sorry if this is in the wrong section/already been covered. I tried searching, didn't find anything, and then I tried to find another section that this should be in, and the Lounge was the only other place I could see...so if that's where it goes, I would like to request a move, please.

Anyway, what funny stories do you have with your RX-8. Mine just happened today, actually...

I'm sure everybody else can relate to this as well. A coworker who was informed about the car in a negative manner, so he had the wrong assumptions to it. He's been talking with my other teammates over here, and was all about how you have to let the car warm up for a while before driving it, and you can't rev it high at all when you first start it, it burns a LOT of oil, blah blah...

So, he's out on a smoke break when I'm coming back from lunch, and here is how the conversation went...

"Hey, did they tell you about that car at all before you bought it?"
*Me, knowing exactly where this conversation was going...*
"No, because when he asked if I knew anything about this car, I told him I pretty much know the engine in and out."
He slouched down a little bit...and before he could say something else, I chimed in...
"You can't rev it above 4k RPMs when it first starts up, much like every other car out there. Then after warm up, hitting 9k RPMs is encouraged. It burns a small amount of oil to keep reliability with the engine. Other than that, everything else is rather standard maintenance."

He just gives me a blank stare....then looks at the guy next to him.."So, when you going to race his Mustang GT?" I saw that coming, even though me and him were talking about it the other day, but haven't really found the time for it...so typically, he is a muscle car guy, and wants to try to make anything unfamiliar to him a "bad" car in general. That's OK, I may have made it seem like I knew more about these cars than I actually do *never seen one in person opened* but I do like to think I'm versed well in them.

Hehe, I plan on doing it this weekend if he's available. We didn't race, but we were both pushing our cars. It was when we were on the way to his house, and he hit a bit long stretch, and he was ahead of me, so he floored it. Well, I caught on a little late, and by the time I matched his speed, and he stopped gaining, he was a good 4-5 car lenghts up on me. So not a race, but I saw how it would probably end up going

racing mustangs is bad cause rcing is wrong in general... that being said... its fun to watch them cry how your silly little import smoked their *** and you make them wash your car for a month and scrum the bugs off the bumber ... muhuhuahahaha

yeah I hate mustangs. they were good. now they suck. After a certain year they took the we can life off our name route and stopped making them fun.

I'm not saying I'll win, sadly. He's got a GT, so it has something ~300 hp, and the numbers dictate he'll win, unless I'm a better driver than him.

And racing is fine in a controlled environment, which I'm trying to get set up. I don't hate Mustangs for much other than reasons of the people who own them think they are hot **** most of the time, and the fact I can count at least 20 before getting 2 blocks down the road.

BUT this isn't a mustang bashing thread, it's a funny RX-8 story thread haha.. Side tracking ftw.

I have a funny story, but its rated R. Let just say after me and a "friend" attempted to have a certain kind of fun in the 8, her knee was all bruised up from the E-Brake the next day.

haha good story. I can honestly say I've never done that, I'm kind of scared. If the car is parked I'm fine with it, but I'm afraid I'd lose control if I were to.. have fun while driving. Stories of fun times and car accidents never end well...

Haha it was parked! Its a damn small car! Needless to say I've had better. But it was a good laugh!

The only thing I can think of doing there is passenger seat folded all the way back....and she's on top. Everything else seems horrible.

Exactly. I took down several just because i knew how to drive my car. there's only a one sec difference in the 1/4 so if you can drive decent, you can give him a run for his money.

When you put it that way, I feel like I might have a chance...
Thanks mmats, you make me complete.

1 second in the 1/4 mile is a pretty significant difference. A good driver in an RX8 and a BAD driver in the GT would be a good race. A good driver in the RX8 and a decent driver in the GT and I still take the GT.
