Fuel Light
so after i did a little searching and didn't find anything that jumped out at me i figured i'd take the risk and ask the questions. anyone know who much fuel is left in the tank with the low fuel warning light comes on? i know the owners manual says "refuel ASAP" but thats a little vague to me. i know my subaru's light came on with 2.5 gallons left in the tank and i didn't know if the 8 was the same or not.
reason i ask is because gas prices are drasticly different in the area i work and in the area i live, 13 miles away. i'd rather fill up near home but i have to know that i'm going to make is there first.

yeah, i figured as much but you never know. i'd also like to know fo future reference. there's been more than one time that i've stretched my milage out to get to cheaper gas. when you get 16 mpg, you gotta do what you gotta do.

I think it's under 2. Maybe 1.5-1.8. Either way it's enough to make a 13 miles ride to cheaper gas (as long as you're not holding it at 8k the whole way )

I've always thought just above 2 gallons. I've been filling up right after the light comes on consistently, and it always takes 13-13.5 gallons till the pump clicks off. I've never tried to keep filling until it overflows though to see how much more it would take until literally full, usually just fill to the nearest ten cents :P

Our tanks hold 15.9 gal. I pretty regularly drive to the point of the fuel light coming on, and I always record how many gallons I'm putting in. Usually at that point, I have used somewhere between 13.5 and 14 gallons at absolute most.
Therefore, the fuel light comes on in the ballpark of 1.9-2.4 gallons remaining. Or, about 30 - 40 miles.

I go by the "idiot light" theory. - If the light turns on, go get gas you idiot. Because if you run out of gas, you are an idiot and shoud be left stranded.
But I get gas when the light come on. It is almost always 13.3 - 13.5 gallons I put in. You do the math.

I gotta say that the 9 seems to have less reserve then most cars. I had never ran out of fuel in my life, but when I had my second 8 demo for 6 months I ran out twice. 30 miles is PUSHING it with the light on, where as I had previously gone nearly 100 miles in a civic with the light on...

our light = 1.8gallon left I think.......I fill up when light comes on and its always 13.5-9 gallons..............how much does our tank hold again?

I had my light come on twice during a recent road trip. Each time I hit a gas station within a few miles, and it took exactly 13 gallons to fill. So on mine there's about 3 gallons left.
My passenger's reaction was "So you had another 60 miles of range. You could have gone further and found a cheaper station."

I always fill up entering and leaving Georgia as gas ALWAYS seem to be significantly cheaper in that state.

I always wondered the same thing. Pushed it a few times, but haven't been stranded yet!

I ran out once in coasting distance of home. There are certainly much worse places to run out of gas late at night when you just want to get home... Walked inside and handled it in the AM...
