Fuel Economy Solution

To all of you that complain about poor fuel economy I have to tell you I just got 21.8 mpg on a 200 mile run. The drive was a mix of highway and twisting country roads. There's been a lot of discussion regarding lightening the car to increase mileage. I just discovered the opposite to be the solution. By adding 130 lbs to the passenger seat my mileage increased 4 mpg. J/K actually today is Stephanie and my wedding anniversary and we went for a long drive just to get away. The 21.8 is for real. 203 miles 9.3 gallons. When you are consciously keeping the speed and revs down the mileage is decent. When I drive myself rarely get over 18.

Therein lies the problem... It's too hard to do. :D

I now have hit 19.2 and 19.7 MPG on two tanks that had 200+ miles on them. I was burning regular and the miles were urban, rural, and expressway, including ~20 minutes of Driver-Ed sorts of manuevers in a school parking lot. My target revs for city/urban acceleration are below 3500.

There are other threads on this topic, mostly over in the Tech Garage.

The difficulty in keeping the revs down is a common comment.
