I used to have that, every few days a cop would come by my neighbors house to see if they moved their car. If it was not moved they would get a ticket. It was so far out of the way for him to go, but the cop knew the car never moved. Where he lived you couldn't keep your car in the same place all the time, even if its in front of your own house.

Gotta love when cops are out there doing nothing but badgering people rather than finding a proper criminal to arrest.

Funny thing is...i've been stopped by cops n' got tickets for things like tint n' exhaust noise but never for 'no front license plate'.

I know i sure as hell don't look innocent and I live in a ticket happy state so iono

Exactly!!!

Thanks for sharing that story. In my street you don't have to move cars, but this cop just "walks" around looking at every single car trying to find something wrong to write a ticket.

It's just a shame that cops get paid a salary from tax money, then waste time dealing with crap like that instead of doing something more productive.

For example, people tend to speed in my street. There's a bunch of kids around since we have some young families. I would like to see that same cop doing something to make the street safer for the kids. Instead, he wastes time by making people's lives more complicated.

Cops don't even come into my neighborhood unless they get called(doesn't happen), lots of speeders here also. I usually go 5 over the limit but still have people going by me at least doing 55 in a 35 past the schools and what not.

Here in HI it's required to have the front plates, but you gotta pay to play if worse comes to worst. I sure as hell don't look anywhere near innocent with my 8 being the way it is, but I've gotten glances and looks from plenty of cops and they just brush it off.

Over here it seems as if they won't bother tagging you for a missing plate unless they pull you over for something else. Been driving around for about 2 years without a front plate. *knocks on wood*

I do that like 2 blocks from my house since i bought my 8, no intersecting roads, everyday when i come home, pull from 2nd-high 3rd.

After about 2 months i guess people complained so they put down those wires in the street to test how fast peoples cars were rolling over the wires to determine if they want to invest in putting in a speed bump.

I keep pulling but now i brake right before the wire and roll over it at 15mph haha.

ANYWAY

I dont run a plate on my 08 rx8, well its on my dash, i havnt been pulled over for it yet and been driving it for a few months, pass multiple cops, even gotten pulled over and he didnt say anything about it.

WHATEVER YOU DO DONT BUY THAT PIECE OF CRAP 3.99 AUTOZONE ****

It looks like crap, the stupid thing that attaches to the bottom of your bumper.

I made my own tow hook bracket for my old rx8 and it looks so sexy IMHO. All parts purchased via mcmaster. M20 size bolt btw, thats the size of the bolt needed to screw into the tow hook location.

Honestly, the first generation RX-8 was far more sexy than the second generation. 2004-2008 and 2009-2012 am I correct? Especially in the department of taillights!

I agree... I think it was Mazda's plan to make the series 1 RX8s the new tuner vehicle. It's such a great platform to work with.

The taillights on an s2 look way better than an s1, please pass whatever you're smoking.

If you wanna pick something that looks worse go with the corner/side lights with that ugly black plastic around them.

In Houston, they stopped using traffic cameras due to cost which totally negates the reason for the front plate in the first place. Also, from a functional standpoint, it restricts airflow on the RX8, granted, it's marginal, but it does have an effect. I never put it on or put anything in the window and fortunalely have not received any warnings or tickets. I also have a Purple Heart plate so that may factor into it, not saying I'm immune to laws just that if I'm an officer I'm probably not going to pursue someone with that plate unless they are asking for it.

Like you said, marginal. It's literally 18-24 square inches of intake room that is covered up. Still, rotaries are hot and therefore need all the cooling they can get!
And have you ever looked at the front air dam? HOLY ****!!! It's huge!!!!!!

I would just try mounting the plate higher and bending the top towards the car. You know if you look at the front grill a good bit of it is filled in plastic and doesn't let air in anyway.

I would be hesitant to cut the plate up though as it is still state owned property, not yours. You can check your states code on that but I am guessing they could hit you with a pretty good fine if they wanted to for destroying state property.

you are on crack. The S2 PWNZ the S1 in every way EXCEPT the front bumper, i HATED the front bumper with a passion, god damn that car became so ugly with that on. I loved everything else about it.
Oh and S1's can be modded so that a BIG PLUS!

No actually...... take a look at my picture above, or actually look at your car. Its not a real grill, 2/3 of it is blocked, i could put a piece of cardboard over it and not restrict any flow.

no, its not a real grill, see above^

illegal, technically, you cant even use those license plate frames if they interfere with the state lettering, my mom got a ticket for that once. Plus its state property.

+1, does everyone think my towhook license plate location sucks dick or something? i really like it and it remedied the problem i have with the HUGE smiley face bumper alittle. And since its custom you can mount your plate anywhere you want to drill a hole in the aluminum piece that connects to the towhook location.

Regardless EB, it looks like crap. It's called a dashboard, not a license plate board.

Same goes for the grill, it changes the look of the car. Some cars are designed with a front plate in mind. The RX8 is not one of them. What kills me though is the city planners who envisioned this concept of cameras and front plates without looking at the bottomline which is it cost more to operate the system than the revenue it brings in. It's a broken system that has left a bunch of expensive useless cameras around Houston along with useless front plates.

I have had mine in my window for a year now and havent even got questioned or warned about it even when ive gotten pulled over.

I went to go take my drivers test with it in my window and the mean DMV people told me I have to have it on the front to take the test, so i went in to the dollar store next door and zip-tied it onto the grill

Took it off right after and put it back in the inside window. But if you really wanted it to be on without going all hardcore with frames and all the zip ties worked out just fine.

V C Section 11713.17 Front License Plate Bracket

Front License Plate Bracket

11713.17. (a) Following the retail sale or lease of a motor vehicle for which the department issues two license plates, a dealer may not deliver the motor vehicle unless either of the following occurs:
(1) The motor vehicle is equipped with a bracket or other means of securing a front license plate.
(2) The dealer obtains a signed written acknowledgment from the person taking delivery of the motor vehicle acknowledging both of the following:
(A) The person expressly refused installation of a bracket or other means of securing the front license plate.
(B) The person understands that California law requires a license plate to be displayed from and securely fastened to the front of the motor vehicle and that the hardware necessary to securely fasten the front plate is available from the dealer.
(b) A manufacturer or distributor may not sell or distribute in this state a new motor vehicle for which the department issues two license plates, unless that motor vehicle is equipped or provided with a bracket or other means of securing the license plates.

Added Sec. 1, Ch. 365, Stats. 2004. Effective January 1, 2005.

PS trimming the plate is NOT illegal as long as the numbers/letters are left untouched.
Peace
