front bumper cover coming off

front bumper cover coming off

has anyone noticed that right below the signal marker on the front bumper, the cover will spontaneously come off. while washing my car i noticed that the front bumper cover just below the signal marker started to pull away from its body attachments. i easily popped it back in but im wondering if it will periodically start to pop out again? i will go into the dealer tomorrow to get it looked at. i also noticed the black fasteners that secure the black wheel base cover are missing. about 3 to be exact

any thoughts?

Yea I'm missing some by the back driver wheel. I too need to hit up the dealer. Keep us posted man.

I noticed that the nose seemed to be coming away from the car. I could see little white plasticky bits at the joint where I could not see them before. I thought I might be imagining things though. Might be an extra separation of 2-5 mm.

Yea, that's knida weird I just noticed the same thing this past weekend. I'm going to look more closely this weekend

Mine is doing the same thing on the driver's side just below the corner lanp. Also on the passenger side rear bumper, not as bad though.

that is exacty what im talking about. at first it seems like a small separation, where you can actually see the white fasteners. eventually it came out too far so i pushed it back in and the fasteners clicked back in place. this isnt normal though so im goin to the dealer.

I also have this problem. I can see the white spacers in between my front bumper and the rest of the car. I have put up with it for the past 6 months I would say. I tried pushing up on it once, but I guess not hard enough to make it click. I will try again, and if I can't get it to click closer into place then I will bring it up at the next oil change.

I imagine this is a pretty common issue since several people are seeing it.

I have also seen where my front air dam is pulling away on the sides. I believe it is just attached with double sided tape of some sort.

wow. i checked my front bumper on my lunch break after reading this...
it is happening to me too!!! the gap is very small, but i can easily see the white attachment pieces. now i'll be paranoid, always checking to see if it sagging a little bit more.
should a dealership fix this sort of thing free of charge?

I'm not surprised to hear this. On all the new Mazda cars they have this plastic fender / bumper retainer that the front and rear bumper snaps into. Other than the one screw on the back tip of the bumper it's the only thing that holds the bumper to the fender on Mazda cars these days. When I first worked on a few RX-8's I had a feeling that one day the bumper plastic would get old from heat and age and start coming off like what you've described. I don't know what you can do other than push it back in from time to time. If you replace the plastic side retainer of bumper it will just start doing it again in a year or two. The should go back to the way they did it in the past I think.
