forced into a 8

hi new member here , thought i would explain how i came across my 8. my sister bought a black 6sp gt model about 2 months ago. i decided to borrow it one night and got into a wreck, the damage wasnt to bad , but my sister got all uptight about it , me being the smartarse that i am said "if u dont want the thing ill take it " she made me eat my words , after paying the 7400$ to fix it , im stuck with the 27k $ bill for the car, but i must say it is a nice car, so no hard feelings.

Nice!! I think if that happened when I get my 8 (knock on wood) My brother would love me for making him take the car. Then again once I buy the car he might steal it.

Omicron,
You should know that now that the cars been in a wreck, that makes it less susceptible to future damage... it's a simple matter of Murphy's Law, combined with the laws of quantum physics...
In short, it's "predisastered."

I'm with emailists. Sure, your sister has coverage but, the insurance covers her as a driver. Did you not have adequate insurance? As far as who's responsible, you were driving and your insurance should have covered it provided you have adequate coverage.

From what I know, this is like the big arguement about renting a vehicleand buying the rental company's insurance rip off. If you have adequate coverage on yourself, then your insurance covers any vehicle you may drive. Correct me if I am wrong here. I'm not 100% on this and it may vary from state to state.

Wasn't there a post on here earlier today about the poor guy with the silver RX-8 that has been hit twice already? That blows Murphy out of the water on that one. :D

Actually her insurance is primary. The insurance covers both the vehicle and the driver and both are used for rating purposes. If a vehicle has insurance, and you are driving it with her permission then it will be primary. You are covered for a temporary vehicle that you drive which is why you do not buy the policy at the rental place because it is considered a "temporary substitute" and not a replacement. The rule of thumb is when you borrow someones car, you borrow their insurance.

Huh? So your insurance insures you in whatever vehicle you drive? Well that is new to me. My policies have always been for certain vehicles...hence the need for the VIN number right there on the insurance card.

Wow, didn't know that. I learn so much on this forum. I didn't have parents to teach me all this stuff, so I get my info here. :D

Of course you should check with your Insurance Agent about your particular coverage and policy. Be sure to ask specifically how the "temporary substitute" coverage is handled. (Hows that for a disclaimer) I'm a State Farm Agent and that is generally how our policy works in my State.
