Fog Lights

This may seem like a dumb question and may go against the "posting rules," but how do you turn the fog lights on?

Well, there is a rotary switch on the headlight switch stick, if that's what you mean. Keep in mind that the headlights must be on low beam for them to work unless you do the popular re-wire detailed in the DIY section. With any other setting of the lights--i.e., off, high beams, parking lights--they will not illuminate.

Instructions on how to turn on/off your fog lights are in your manual.

Not anymore. All the features in your car are explained in your manual.

Well don't be discouraged by some of the replies. Ya'll come back if you need help in the future. However, it is a good idea to check the manuals first and, before posting a question, to search the forum for the topic you're interested in. Just about everything you can imagine has been discussed, usually in great detail, and you will find a wealth of information here if you have a little patience separating the wheat from the chaff, so to speak. Welcome to the forum and see my PM.

I know to read the manual, I did. I also searched first. But, when my lights are off and I scroll the other thing, nothing happens. The lights won't turn on. So, I thought that maybe I was a retard and misunderstanding the book or something. But, I guess there is something wrong with my fog lights. Grrrreeeeaaaat...

Yea...u need your headlights on for the fog lights to be on (no matter if the foglight switch is on or off). You can re-wire however.

And by the way, why is this? That there exists a popular rewiring is proof that that behavior is not what people really want, so why do they do it that way?

I believe it has to do with US regulatory requirements. Like NHTSA or some other government entity. What people want and what the government dictates are not always the same. As far as "what people really want", that applies to a few forum members who want more flexibility in using the fogs--mostly using them as DRLs. I suspect that the general public could care less about even using fogs.

As far as fog light effectiveness, the high beams product too much reflection--aka, dazzle--in the fog, so the idea I suppose is to "encourage" you to use the more-effective low beams when activating the fogs.

first make sure you have foglights

then turn on your low beam head lights, then the fogs...now they are on, turning off the low beams or turning on the high beams will turn the fogs off.

read the DIY on how to rewire the fog lights if you want to be able to use them independent of the headlights, with just the fog switch.

i did it to mine, I roll around with just the 'parking' lights and fogs on when ever I drive...sorta my version of daytime running lights.
