I forget, what are some of the signals that your engine is getting close to flooding and how can you prevent it?

There is only one thing to look for - and will tell you that your engine is close to flooding: Turning off the car before it's warmed up.

You are in control, you have to cause it.

Not even that, really. If you just rev it to 4k and hold it there for a couple seconds before turning off the car, then pull the key and keep your foot on the gas until the engine completely winds down, it's not a problem. Even when cold. I do that every time I shut the car off, regardless, and it's never even been close to flooding for me.

The rev theory is a fallacy.

I did it every time I shut down, regardless of the car being cold or not. After two years, I flooded even after reving for 10 seconds on a cold shut down.

Saying you don't flood because you do the 4k rev is like saying cigarettes do not kill - afterall you're still alive and you've been smoking them.

You can shut down while cold and not flood. It doesn't always happen. It's more like a game of Russian roulette.

Just avoid cold shut downs. That's the bottom line.

The question is - did you hold the throttle wide open after pulling the key, all the way until the engine shuts off?

It's drive by wire, doesn't work like that.

You turn the key off.....the two pedal position sensors are dead.

So, lets say i drive about 3-5 miles to get somewhere, do you think that would warm the car up enough so that it wont flood? Because i am thinking of getting an 8 but dont know if trips like that are too short.

The needle on mine is right about normal operating temperature by 1 mile, unless it is really cold outside (noticed this when it was 24 degrees in the dark, early morning in April) and then it takes a little bit longer but it definitely would have made it before 3 miles. My car gets up to temperature pretty quickly.

Nice. O.o only thing that pisses me off is having to use the 91 Prem gas lol. ah but the count down begins, in a couple of months about 2-3 i will have enough money to put a good payment down on an 8 :-D (that is if I get my job as a servers tomorrow, yes the said life of a college student).

There IS a fool-proof fix to the flooding, BUT, its a little..different.

It is effectively a fuel-cut switch, but..without the switch. Everytime you turn off the car, it would stay running, but cut the fuel, and allow the car to turn off that way.

That is what people do with cars that flood, install fuel cut switch, and let it "stall out". But..the only problem with this, is it causes you to lose fuel pressure, and would need a bit of time to prime before the next start.

Has anyone flooded with the new plugs, starter, and battery?

I haven't and I have at times shut down while cold (using the rev for 10 seconds).
