flooding purposely??

I know this sounds stupid and im not sure if its been asked or done before but would it be a bad idea to flood the engine in purpose, to get new plugs, spark plug wires new battery and possibly a starter.just a stupid question i guess but would i be doing damage to the car?cause ive been close to flooding it cause i forgot to rev it up a couple times barely started again. I was just curious since the dealership would pay for it all . Why not do it sacrficing the getting towed and all?

No it doesn't sound stupid, it sounds like a dirt bag thing to do. People are having problems getting defective cars fixed and you want to mess it up on purpose to get free parts that you might not need. Depending on your build date you could have the larger battery and new plugs anyway. Why not try this novel idea, tell the dealer the truth and if there is something wrong with your car that they will not fix tell the truth to Mazda NA.

No kidding! Be glad your car works. People have had real problems with their cars and they didn't deliberately mess with them. If you would have said that while standing near me I think I would have kicked the crap out of you!!!!!

Yeah, you're pretty much a piece of crap, rx8dude. Shut the hell up or sell your car if you don't like it so much.

I can't objectively bash a thought like this, because it's hard for people who don't have this issue to understand where you are truly coming from. There is some smarts in all of this. If you are experiencing near flooding issues, the right thing to do is to take car to dealer, and tell them that this car is barely starting up, and you fear it may flood and leave you stranded. This in my mind is still unacceptable, so if it bothers you enough, and you fear you may flood car, even unintentionally, you need to take car in and demand a fix of some kind. It's not the best idea to purposely flood your car, but if you are getting close to it, it's bound to happen even if not deliberately. If they refuse to do anything about it until car floods, then it's not as stupid of an idea as people are making it out to be.

I can understand the thought crossing your mind, but Mazda simply doesn't have a full proof fix to this problem, so the best idea is probably to take better precaution, because that's part of what goes with the territory with a car like this. Good luck!!

you need to find a better dealer... at least you were honest about the issue....

this is like putting a turbo in, blowing it up from a bad tune taking it out. then taking it back to the dealer for a new motor......

somehow with the starter the car came with 53k miles later i have not flooded it yet...

and yes i have done nothing out of the ordanary.... i still pull the car out of the garage and shut it down to wash it...

go figure..

If it's really a problem it looks like they may have a voluntary recall
If you are just trying to score goodies - I am sure there is a way you could defraud Mazda, cheat your insurance company, steal from your Mom's purse, and pull off a lot of 'clever' scams - but if you thought everybody was going to see it broadcast on TV would you really want to look like that?

You do not need to intentionally flood your car. If you're having the hard start issues, your dealer can do the work under the TSB. But it would be up to the dealer on what they replace. Then again, they might just tell you it's nothing to worry about.

its cool, you can get what you need done, just remember to take the honest route to accomplish it, plus if the car runs fine you might not need it just because others have it.

My service manager said they love upgrading the starter and plugs as Mazda pays them well for it as long as you fall within the vin range. My battery wasn't upgraded as it had been replaced just before I bought the car. Ever been to a dealership and they had to jump the car because it had been sitting so long? They said it happened all the time with the original smaller battery, which is being replaced via the TSB.

That being said I let them know that it had flooded once. Which it did but not by me, the shop that did some work for my car.

If your car doesn't fit in the VIN range you should already have upgraded starter, plugs, and battery.

I got the battery but that's it. Reason, my battery died, it didn't flood. That was before they had the starter and plug and battery TSB. No problems after that, and they can't just add in the other parts now. The dealer doesn't (can't) just throw parts at a car just because there is a TSB, there has to be a *current identifiable problem* before MNAO will authorize warranty work. In this case, it has to flood.

Since the starter works, why do I care it's not the new one? I don't.

If you are gonna flood engine for new parts do you have insurance?
Cause you could just wreck the car and get a new one (even more free parts).
Sigh. At least wait till the people who are havn problems get theirs fixed so they arnt waiting on you.

My dealer gave me the upgrade. I told him I had some hard starts, showed him the TSB and that was it. Got all three with my last oil change. With that new starter, I would be curious if there is still a flooding issue. It cranks much, much faster now.

RX8Dude, if your car is in the VIN range, they should give you the upgraded parts. If its not in the VIN range, then why do you deserver it?

Mike
