First Oil Change and break in?

I just picked up my RX on Friday. The dealer went over the reccomended service intervals, he said the first oil change is at 5k. Is this what everyone here reccomends? Shouldnt the oil be changed after the break in period? Also, the car's build date was Nov, 03. So it has been sitting on the lot for a while with the same oil.

Nov 3rd ??? How many miles did it have on it? That is more then six months older then most people buying now! I wonder about its history. I change the oil about every 2-3k at the dealer, so far they have only charged me once. You can expect the MPG to go up about 2-4 mpg after about 5-10k miles on it. I have got 27.5 three times with all hwy and cruz set at 65mph. It will rev so much quicker too after its broke-in. Take it easy like the book says for the first 1k. Read your book , you will be glad you did.....

Change oil now, Nov 03.

CHange oil after broken in is not necessary but will do some good.

I will change every 3-4K miles. Or every 5000km in metric

Look at the level too. When you have burned the 2nd litre of oil, better change the whole thing.

It had 107 miles, the test drive route was about 7 miles, so at most its been out 15 times. I am pretty sure it was sitting in the show room for a while, the plastic seat backs had some scratches, they are putting new ones on for me this week

Be sure to grab up some spare oil for the trips. My oil light came on yesterday @ 3K mi. I was very lucky to find some 5W 20. It's not sold in gas stations...at least around here.

Do you mean that you haven't checked you oil in 3000 miles, until the light came on? Please, get in the habit of checking it at least every 1000 miles. As you know, this engine uses oil by design, and you don't want it running low...

yeah....I checked it before I left on a 800 mile round trip. I had 2300 miles on my car and it was 1/4 above minimum. I was going to try and squeeze the trip out knowing that I was getting the oil changed as soon as I got back. And right at 3k miles the light popped on and went right back off. And it was just below the min. level. So I went on an hour long escapade through WV looking for some 5W/20 and that's not easy! I have some in reserve now.
